I Need Help With This
i am looking to adding some more spark to my ignition. i have a stock gm electronic inginition now i hear that they put out about 38,000 volts. i would like to get up to 45-50 thousand volts. what should i do to get there?
msd 6a? aftermarket coil? i am open to all suggestions |

I could be wrong here, it's been awhile since tech school, but there I'm thinking they told us that GM's HEI puts 120,000 volts under the hood.....it was even the title of one of the videos they showed.

Go with an aftermarket coil and module. Most you will get out of HEI will be in the 45,000 volt range.
My .02 cents is install a solid HEI that's in good tune with quality wires and spend your money upgrading elsewhere UNLESS you have high compression and/or run higher octane or higher RPMS. But that's just me.

Anybody here whos running fuel injection, I know there are a few, have a crank trigger setup? What type of distributor/setup is on the tpi and tbi setups? because their advance is puter controlled. The hei is good but is almost 30 years old. most cars now don't have a distributor, its all high resolution optical triggers and coils for each cylinder. You can only gain hp, torque and gas milage by improving!
