Trailering an air bagged / laid out ride?
Just curious as to how everyone does theirs. The safest would be to air it right out and lay on the trailer, but how do you tie it down?

Trailer are for 2 things, horses and racecars.
Anyway we have a set of straps and 2 comealongs. Lay it out Throw a strap over the rear end and and hook it down to one of the loops on the back of the trailer and same up front on an a frame or some where On the frame Posted via Mobile Device Last edited by NuttinSpecial; 08-28-2011 at 04:02 PM. |

tie it down by the axles and then air it up ... same as you would if it was a coil spring truck.

As someone who hauls cars for a living and owns a few bagged vehicles, i lay them out on 2x4s then run straps from the frame to the trailer. I have seen body dropped trucks laid out while being trailered get the rocker panels beat up.

Re: Trailering an air bagged / laid out ride?
I haul my bagged trucks the same way I do one with static drop. I set it at ride height and strap the front going to the frame. I snug that down a little then go to the rear. In back I strap the axle and cinch it down tight. Then I go back and cinch down the front.
There are those that will disagree with this set up, but I have found that allowing the rear suspension to be free gives a much better tow than having it fixed. Just as important to the method used, is the trailer and tow rig. If your towing with a 1/2 ton on a short trailer it will require a lot more attention to centering the towed vehicle than a big trailer being towed by a 1 ton.

Any opportunity for a possible bag ruptures with the bags either air'd up or not?

Re: Trailering an air bagged / laid out ride?
not trying to be argumentative, but why would you want to beat the hell out of your truck by hauling it layed-out?
why not use the truck's suspension for what it was designed to do and not rely solely on the trailer's suspension for cushion? |

Until the trailer goes for a rough ride on a bumpy road. Then you get to spend more time and money to fix the work that was once done.

Re: Trailering an air bagged / laid out ride?
I lay them out on wood then strap it to make it that much more solid. Less movement on the trailer=less damage while trailering.

Re: Trailering an air bagged / laid out ride?
Over the tires has been good for 460k on my trailer.
And mandated by several manufacture's Seems to be easier on the cars and trailers.
