Time for a Road trip!

Its time for a road trip, and I'm going to use this thread as a way to keep track of everything. It should be the ultimate test for my truck, and the components on it.

Trip will consist of leaving tomorrow(9/2/11) from New Orleans La, driving 410 miles to Millington Tn for the Relaxed All Star Event show.

Sunday(9/4/11) I will be leaving Millington and heading to Lawrenceburg Tn, distance of 168 miles, to spend a few days at a friends shop giving him a hand and hopefully learning a bit.

Wednesday or Thursday(9/7-8/11) I will leave Lawrenceburg and head to Pigeon Forge, distance of 288 miles, for Shades of the Past.

Then Sunday(9/11/11) I will leave back for New Orleans, distance of 631 miles.

Total distance being 1500 miles. Good thing I have cruise control! A/c would sure be nice, maybe next year.

So this is the truck-

quick rundown of specs-
Ls1/t56
12 bolt- 4.10 gears.
scotts superslam IFS w/ power steering
suicidedoors 4 link rear
lays running board FLAT on the ground, driving clearance of about 2".

so that's it for now. I'll update with some pics tomorrow when we pull out. For those of you who are going to Pigeon Forge, come say whats up!

Re: Time for a Road trip!

well we pulled out of New Orleans at 9am on Friday, in the rain. Sucked. Either way, we made it up to Millington by 3. Took me ~16 gallons to get up here. So thats about 25mpg @ speeds between 80-140.

One the way we had an issue where the rear cab corners got water in them and shorted the relays for the doors, so the passenger door popped open. Scary, but once we got up here to Millington I got it all fixed.

I'll be staying the night in Millington and headed to the Amish land tomorrow. Hopefully the weather will holdout. Rain is everywhere right now.

Got two pics on the way out here, proof I drove in the rain and just some tennessee action.

That sounds like a great road trip to make. It looks like you went through the rain at Picayune about the same time my cousin's daughter posted a video of it at her place on Facebook.

Cajun-

Sounds awesome. Drive safe. I just got my truck on the road and have been setting out on 50 miles drives doing the shake down. I still need someone to scan/tune my LT1 to make sure everything is working correctly.

When you got you LS1 running did you have anyone tune it? Just curious.

Keep us posted.

Re: Time for a Road trip!

I tune with efilive. So I did all my own setup and changes.

But, Im sad to inform everyone that the truck will be towed home from pigeon forge. I hit a little bitty cast steel cleanout(like a mini manhole) in the rv park we are staying at that wasnt properly installed and it got all caught up underneath the truck and did major damage. Ripped the front running board bracket off, which was welded soild, and the running board now contacts the door. Took the fuel lines and knotted them up as well. I'll get pics up soon. Im pretty devastated.

But I need all the running board brackets for the drivers side, and a new front drivers fender. So if anyone in the NOLA/Baton Rouge area has something, lmk. I won't get it all fixed by cruising the coast, but Im hoping soon after.

Maybe I'll upgrade and put a/c in the truck while its all ripped apart?

Re: Time for a Road trip!

yeah a/c should be happening. The adjuster is coming out tomorrow or tuesday.

This is the best pic that sums of the exterior damage.

whole situation sucks. Im having a buddy tow it home on a damn uhaul trailer, they are about 2 hrs out, so hopefully they can make it back safe without anymore damage.

Re: Time for a Road trip!

got it home and put away without further damage. I was worried the wheel straps we had to use were going to rub the finish off the wheels but it seems like everything is all good.

I have a lead on a fender so hopefully that will workout. Then all I'll need is running board brackets.

The main difference from 54 and previous years was the front underneath the headlights correct? The hood this guy has looks like a '54 hood, but the fenders look 47-53.

Re: Time for a Road trip!

You will overcome, just a minor set back.

It is easy for me to say, sorry to hear but you know how to fix it.
Any insurance?

Re: Time for a Road trip!

yeah I got more than enough insurance. already talked to ins and they will cover it and turn around and probably get reimbursed from the park since it was a known problem.

I need running board brackets!

guy says the fender is nice, so Im going check it out tomorrow. hopefully I can get everything in primer and rock out to cruising the coast in a few weeks.

at the time of the incident I was nearly all the way lifted up, at about 10" of clearance. I bet if I was super low I wouldn't have caught it as bad. The lip of the cleanout cover seems to have caught inside of the running board bracket.
