Re: 73-80 gm fenders new in the box

I would say YESSS---- get those fenders for that price! Because ALL I've ever heard about aftermarket body panels for our year/model trucks has been NEGATIVE: lousy fit, thin sheet metal and a bunch of other fitment problems.

BadSS--- what/where/who on those NEW GM panels? Bet they cost an ARM+LEG?

Re: 73-80 gm fenders new in the box

73-80 fenders have been obsolete from GM for a long time. I built a 78 Blazer in the late 90s and they were unavailable then, and my neighbor was a GM parts guys with connections.

Spend the cash if you have it. I'm going through the "cheap" fender/door headaches right now....

You can still buy them for around $240 each out the door. Check again slick.

Are you sure they are OEM fenders? I checked on availability a couple years back and they were no longer in production.

Nope, GM quit making these years ago...and if they were still available, no way would they only be $240.

Again, we are talking GM made fenders, not aftermarket GM certified or anything like that....

Uh huh. The hood hinges were just recently discontinued, and the last price I got was $130 each. I had a set of NOS fenders I got somewhere around 2004, and I think my cost (as a dealership employee) was more than that even then, when you could still get them. As a comparison, the 88-98 truck fenders are still available, at about $530 each.

BRAND NEW Gm fenders. Along with metal headlight bezels. If you know the part numbers for the fenders and want them bad enough, they're still available from the Dealer. Made with GM tooling, by GM contractors, in the USA. (GM doesn't make much of their stuff aside from when the owned Delphi)

I know that the part numbers still show up on the website for VPI but I had my dealer run the numbers and only one bezel (left side) and one fender (cant remember which side ) shows to be available. I had them order the parts that show up but they never came in . I even authorized them to precharge our account since they said anything ordered through VPI would have to be prepaid. My dealer said that they must not be available since the order was placed but the parts never came in . I show that some of the numbers are available but it may just be my dealer that isnt getting the job done. He called and ordered the parts and I called every few days for over two weeks but no parts . If they are still available ,and you can still get them ,your dealership is doing a better job than mine . That may be the problem on my end but I havent had any luck with the VPI thing. If you could check into it I am sure there would be plenty guys here that would appreciate your efforts. I know that some dealers just dont want to go through the hassle of special ordering parts for older vehicles so that may be what happened on my deal.
Thanks,
Frank

Re: 73-80 gm fenders new in the box

For that price, I would look to buy an old rust free truck with good front fenders and sell the rest of the truck for parts. Scrap vehicles are now selling for $350-$500. You might end up with "free" used fenders.

Long ago discontinued.

Here's the GM Restoration Parts website.

May be discontinued, but you can still buy them from the dealership. They're leftover stock that gm discontinued and the company that carries them resells them back to the dealerships. That way GM doesn't have to keep stock on slow moving parts.
