Driveaxle / axleshaft grease leak ?

I was checking my brakes on my 04 Av today and saw some evidence of leaking back by the axleshaft inner boot. I thought the boot must have a crack, but it is does not. The grease / oil ? appears to be leaking behind the driveaxle flange toward the engine side. I just have a chilton book and couldn't find anything about a seal or anything that may be leaking. There is no grinding or any sound and the leak is just a thin film of what appears to be a grease or heavy oil. Anyone have any experience with this???

Yes there is a seal in there that keeps the lube in your front end. Its not too bad of a job to replace, just takes time. Autozone has a repair guide on their site that shows you how.

Re: Driveaxle / axleshaft grease leak ?

Thanks USMC,
I checked it out and if I can get the correct part and not screw up too much it looks like I may be able to pull it off. I appreciate the help.
