I struck gold! (paint, that is... on the firewall)
Have seen several threads about what the factory paint color was for firewalls, etc. Some say black, some say body color, some say gold/fawn (interior color), some say only east coast, only west coast had this or had that, etc etc. I would have SWORN my firewall was black from day 1. In the process of cleaning off some of the paint that was all rotted from leaking brake fluid, I discovered mine was indeed gold originally (or someone went to a lot of trouble to use nice gold primer....)
Anyway, more fuel to the debate. For what it's worth - the truck is light blue (and that is the paint code on it also) and it has a fawn interior. I'm not positive the gold on the firewall is an exact match for the interior. Anyone know if when it WAS a gold-ish firewall if it was just more of the interior paint? Thanks guys! Thought I'd take a pic before I paint it black and hide it from the world for another 25 years.... (whenever, ifever, I restore/re-do, whatever this truck, I'll do it in the gold firewall color - but for now, just gettin by so I can put the new master cylinder in - had to get the crudd and muck off the firewall from a leaky master). |

that looks like my 63 which has the gold/fawn firewall... the firewall is probably a brighter shade than the interior, because it has been covered up and not in the sun for the last 45 years...

There may not be just one way that it was done.
Maybe different plants had different methods.
