Lowered my 69 GMC stepper today

Hello guys thought that I would post a couple of before and after pictures of the GMC project truck that I am working on, lowered the front with 3 inch drop springs with new upper and lower ball joints and the rear has leaf springs used a 5 inch flip kit all went pretty good for the first time I have ever done this. I will have to find shocks to fit the shorter distance and have the front aligned, I also finished the interior also, I know that you can not tell a whole lot about the stance without the bed but without the bed it looks like that it will have a good stance to it. What do you all think? Robert the newbie.

Cool Re: Lowered my 69 GMC stepper today

Nice looking truck. Yea the bed being off makes it a little hard to say but it should look fine.

How about a picture of the rod behind it.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Lowered my 69 GMC stepper today

Thanks the "Rod" behind it is not a rod at all it is a 1929 Ford Model A it is all original it was my first build. Me and the Wife wanted something that would go a little faster on the road than 45 mph downhill with the wind to our backs! So we found the truck! Hope to have it going soon. Also just bought a 1962 Corvair it is in great shape running and driving has 55,000 actual miles and a complete documented history from when bought new......told the Wife I couldn't pass it up for 600.00! Thank goodness I have a Wife that likes cars as much as I do! I guess I have enough to keep me busy for awhile! So now I guess a bigger Garage! Robert

The truck looks great. Mine is in the progress of the same stance. Just rear coils in the rear though. What size tires are you running? They look like a good fit. If I had to guess I'd say 235/75/15, maybe 225/60/15? Either way it looks great. I can't wait to see more pics with the bed on.

You got it going!!!

Great looking projects and great pics of y'all in front of the old Ford.

The original color of the truck is the same as mine and the outer color matches really well. You remember what color it is?

Re: Lowered my 69 GMC stepper today

Thanks 68 gmsee I bought the truck and it was already painted this color the cab corners and rockers had already been cut out and welded back in but the paint is not as good as in the picture it has a few spots to be worked on, pictures always make it look better. I went to the auto paint shop and had it matched and it is a 78 year paint can not recall what color name it is I can get the info if you need it I have it wrote down in the garage. The wife wants to go with a different color and wants that old school hot rod satin black thats right I gave the truck to her to drive! Well she thinks that anyway! HA! HA! She saw a truck at a show with that satin black with red interior and it did look good but I just didn't know how it wood look with the blue interior? What do you guys think it would look like? It is a lot of trouble to change colors but all I have is time. I am still learning the painting in's and out's as the Ford Model A in the above posts was my first paint job turned out alright but it has some flaws. Robert

Re: Lowered my 69 GMC stepper today

Hello Tim I went through a local sport- 4 wheel drive shop but the flip kit and springs are from DJM Suspensions out of California they just ordered straight from factory I also was wondering about the C notch kit but the factory Rep said that with the 69 GMC I would have plenty of room and it was not needed. Now I got on the back of the frame and jumped up and down on the truck and it does take some pretty good jumps to get it to hit but it will so I am going to wait and see how it goes without it there is not a lot of room between the axle and frame but the springs are pretty stiff and this is also without shocks and bed and wood floor installed.....But I figured the guys knew what they were talking about so I didn't order the C notch kit we will just have to wait and see. I will take some pictures of the flip kit tomorrow and post them for you. They are a well built product and was very pleased with them. Robert

Re: Lowered my 69 GMC stepper today

That is one nice truck, looks much better lowered. I like the light Blue paint on the interior of the cab, if your wife want's old school, I'd say paint it that color, add some chrome reverse rims with baby moon caps, or some steelies with poverty caps, and change the steering wheel to one of the retro one's like Mooneyes makes, it would have the look, but would be a lot less hassle and expense. My grandfather had your Corvairs twin, I love that car, you got a smokin deal on it.
