ive been having some problems with the gage cluster on my sierra. first off the oil pressure gage does not work any more. thats a pretty important gage to not have working. but the speedometer is real finiky as well now. sometimes it gets stuck at 55. sometimes it just decides to read 15 mph faster than im really goin. it seems to act up more in the rain if a tire spins. i think the teeth on the needles(if thats what they use). has any body ever fixed a problem like this? sounds like the old aluminum foil in the bycicle handle bars trick might work. ive been thinkin of just replacing the cluster as well. maybe using one that has a trans temp gage. any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated!

Very common problem. I've replaced mine once, and had it repaired another time after that. There are little stepper motors that go bad in the gauges. GM issued a recall of sorts. There are some limitations too it. Without knowing your mileage and such I suggest calling your local dealership and talking to them about it. There are some places on the web that repair them, but I found a local guy that did them for a good price. I got his number from a local truck salvage yard. So you may check with them too.

the gages have a 7 year 70k warranty on them. keep in mind used clusters will have the wrong vin and mileage in them. Dorman sells a Manufactured unit around 250-350 depend on which set you have with a life time warranty and they come preprogramed with the vin and mileage

dorman you say? well im gonna have the chevy dealership fix it up since its just barely under the 7 year warranty. and the next time it breaks i beleive ill use dorman. thanks for the info

well took it to the dealership and sure enough. it was just like yall said. so i had her fixed for free. now ALL my gages work right. woo whooo!!!

I just fixed mine cost me $35.00 and a little time.

I did mine too. Soldered in the new stepper motors and bulbs. Not a bad job if you're able to work on circuit boards.
