Flexible Hedder Connectors?
Does anybody know of a company that makes those flexible (looks like steel mesh) connectors that has a 2.5 inch inside diameter? My Hedman hedders have ball and socket hook-up at the collectors and I want to place a flexi connector right at the collector to allow for movement of the exhaust system without ruining hedder gaskets all the time.
Tired of replacing the hedder gaskets at the manifold ..... These flexible connectors are supposed to do the trick. Any info out there? Thanks. |

Re: Flexible Hedder Connectors?
Worst case scenario, use regular header connectors and put a straight section of flex behind it.

Re: Flexible Hedder Connectors?
If you have the Headman Hedders with the ball and socket flange... there are no collector gaskets.

Re: Flexible Hedder Connectors?
.... yes Gary .... I know that. HA!
Come on ... gimme a little credit for knowin' something here. I built the exhaust system. As it says in my original post, "I'm tired of replacing the hedder gaskets at the manifold from breakage." Key words: "hedder gaskets at the manifold". Let me explain to you: you see with pickup trucks, the overall length of the vehicle and its attending exhaust system, can tend to push and pull on the headers when the chassis is flexed and/or oscilated. Over time the bolts holding the headers to the heads (aka exhaust manifold ports) can tend to loosen. This will allow for, and usually cause the manifold gaskets to tear, break, blow-out and leak. By placing a flexible connection at or just rear of the collector connection, this will allow the remaining exhaust system to move as necessary with the chassis, but the headers will not be stressed at the exhaust manifold (heads) bolts. Do you understand now? Other responders: I looked on Summit's website and all I could find was that 'corregated' looking pipe that isn't what I want. I'm looking for the flex connectors that are make up of woven steel mesh and have a piece of pipe at each end. 'Tuner' cars use them before the full exhaust system to allow for engine movement. Need the 2.5" I.D. though. Any more info on where to find those would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Last edited by 72longbed; 09-16-2011 at 07:49 AM. |

Re: Flexible Hedder Connectors?
Thanks Bill ... those are the ones! By the way, beautiful job on your exhaust system, as usual. I like the way you build stuff.
With tow-guys help, I re-checked with Summit and found the ones I want. Thank you to all for helping. 72longbed |
