700R4 Install almost read
Ok I have a question or two. I'm about ready to install a 700R4 in my 66 long bed and remove the old powerglide. I have The tranny, new crossmember, TC lockup kit and I'm ordering the TV made easy stuff from bowtie overdrives. I think the only thing I have a question on is will the tranny cooler that is integrated into the radiator (new 2 months ago) work well enough for a tranny cooler or should I add another one in there?
Is there anything else anyone can think of before I dive into this? I'll have the drive shaft trimmed after I get everything installed and can measure properly. What am I missing?

Re: 700R4 Install almost read
I'm using the built in tranny cooler in my 64 with a 700r4 seems to work okay. I just measured the difference of my turbo350 and 700r4 and used that for my cutoff lenghth on my driveshaft. It cost me $110.00 and it works great I wish I'd used a od trans form the start.

Re: 700R4 Install almost read
As long as you are not pulling a trailer it should be fine. The reason one sees so many external coolers is that the older radiators did not have trans cooling built in. Now most new radiators do. Kieth
If you had a 1 ton and were pulling a heavy trailer you could add a air to air cooler just to make sure in addition to the radiator cooler...... |

I pull my mowing rig around with it a lot, as well as other farm trailers, hauling hay and such. I think I'll look for an external cooler just to be on the safe side.

Hey, I'm looking at torque converters. I've read a lot of the posts on this install but what are the good brand of torque converters to go with. I'm putting a new one in.

Re: 700R4 Install almost read
I have the 700R4 in mine and i drive that baby like a rental car!!! I also have mine plumbed into the radiator. Nice and quiet in the cab with true dual Dynamax mufflers under my feet, she never runs hot and pulls like a monster in first gear!! I drive about an hour to nashville OFTEN and she runs like the devil on the interstate while turning almost 20MPG behind a 350!! Best investment EVER!!!
