MY 68 is starting to look like a truck again
After 2 years with a total frame off.
What does everyone think of the hood strips? They started as just a paint them and see expecting to repaint the hood but I like them and going to keep them. Still lots to do hoping to be totally completed my spring. |

Re: MY 68 is starting to look like a truck again
I;m not going to run them down the tailgate. I'm hoping a shortbed fiberglass tonneau cover will fit nice and look good on it. If so I'll paint the strips on it plus on top of cab.

Re: MY 68 is starting to look like a truck again
Got my back glass and door windows and vents in and started on the windshield and cracked it. I was so pissed but was pleasently surprised when I called a local glass company and they gave me a price of $220 for a new one installed. So hopefully by next week all the glass will be done

Re: MY 68 is starting to look like a truck again
It looks good, At first I didn't like the stipes, but I kept going back and looking at them and they grew on me. I don't think I would put them on the roof though.

Re: MY 68 is starting to look like a truck again
Thanks all
I like the black but was first going to paint it a burgandy color something along a candy apple red and kind of wish I had. The first vechile I got when I turned 16 was a 68 chevy truck. Dad was going to take me looking for a car just before I got my license and I talked him into the old 68 chevy farm truck that he'd bought new many years before and we fixed it up and I drove it for years till I sold it and now my son just got his license and we have put many hours into this together. |

Re: MY 68 is starting to look like a truck again
Hey poor Hoosier brother, how about this crappy weather this week?!
Just remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.Sooooo.... OK,I'm going to be honest, and I'll probably get torched for it. but........ I don't like how the stripes go all the way to the grill. With all of the curves on these trucks, straight lines just don't flow. Also, there is too much gap in the center. I would terminate the stripes before the grill, round off the front outer corners, fill in the center, (makes it look more muscular) ,and put a 1/4" pin stripe around it. I was messing around earlier with MSPaint to see some what how it would look. I know it looks kinda amateurish, but I was bored. . I know I'm going to regret this. rice rocket. If you were gonna do stripes, (again JMO) i would mimic some 69 Camaro Z-28 ish stripes as he illustrated. Hell, do 'em in silver or pearl white to do something less stark than black on white....and NO....don't do them over the cab roof!!! If your tailgate had no letters i'd say do the gate too, running them thru the letters wont flow real well....again take this with a grain of salt. Just my opinion...no disrespect intended. Tim

Re: MY 68 is starting to look like a truck again
Yes, beauty is truely in the eyes of the beholder.
I agree with the others, don't do the roof, you'll hate it. And pin stripes along the sides would help. If you want to do something to the tailgate, I suggest white letters. The worst thing about this weather is I took a vacation this week to work on my truck. A Honda? Really? Last edited by biggestjohn; 10-01-2011 at 09:31 AM. Reason: oops |

I'm no paint master, nor a design expert, thats why I, and others I'm sure ask for opinions. But I do know that you have to match the flow of the body lines. I thought about, and almost bought a set of Incubus Grim wheels. I searched for quite awhile but found a truck that had them on there. The flat spokes really clashed, I'm now glad that I didn't buy them. Unfortunately, now my heart is set on a set of Intro Pentias, But my wallet says "ARE YOU CRAZY"?! In the future, I will value your opinion. I'm sure he's going to love his truck. The 67-68 body style is gorgeous. Last edited by biggestjohn; 10-01-2011 at 11:19 AM. Reason: more oops |

Re: MY 68 is starting to look like a truck again
Thanks John
You have nothing to regret from me. I kinda like your touch on the sides just not sure on the bottom part The stripes was just something to try and break up all the black and make it different. The weather sucks but I guess the one good thing about it is that since it is to bad to be doing other things I'm spending more time in the shop working on the truck |
