Magna Flow
Anyone have Magna Flow mufflers? Looking for a different sound than the Flowmaster. Don't get me wrong I love the flowmasters but roar in the cab is awful. I looked on youtube for different sound bites and found a blue 65 mustang with magnaflows that sounds perfect. Just wondering if any board members are using magnaflow and how do they like them. I am currently running welded trush mufflers and not liking them.

Re: Magna Flow
Magnaflows are my favorite muffler because at idle, they sound mellow with a nice little rumble, but when you romp it, it's an entirely different tone. Plus, because of the fact that they are a packed muffler, you don't get the annoying Flowmaster drone at highway speeds. Flowmasters have a unique sound, and at first, you love 'em. After a few months, they drive you nuts.
Also, the Magnaflows have a stainless outer case and are a very quality-built muffler. I did a lot of research on www.speedtalk.com concerning muffler testing, and Magnaflows outperformed Flowmasters in dyno testing. These tests were done by some of the top engine builders in the country with no affiliation to any muffler company. One builder saw a 15 horsepower loss between a Flowmaster and a Magnaflow. Get Magnaflows, you won't be disappointed.

Re: Magna Flow
I do custom exhaust work of a living. Headers trubo maniflods some intake manifolds full systems. Alot of stainless work. I only carry Magnaflow. 100 % free flowing and 100% stainless even comes with a lifetime warrenty.
I have to say, I have been doing exhaust for 16 years now and they have to be the muffler i have used. |

Re: Magna Flow
It will not sound like the mustang. only a ford sounds like a ford. Seriously, mustangs have a unique sound.

Re: Magna Flow
I have two 2.5" magnaflows on my suburban and love them. I've had flowmaster's in the past, but I like the magnaflow product a TON better!

Re: Magna Flow
I went with dual 4x9x18 Magnaflows. At idle you can hear the fan spinning over the exhaust, but get on it and it wakes up nicely.

Re: Magna Flow
Nothing against Magnaflow products they sound great, however I have Flow 40 series on my truck and don't have any roar in the cab. I feel this is created by muffler location and exhaust exit. I have 2 1/2 pipes all the way out behind the rear wheels with the mufflers under the bed. My wife doesn't complain so it must be ok. Just my .02 worth.

Re: Magna Flow
How do you think it would sound with 3"pipe off the rear of the muffler with just plain turbo mufflers? I thinking maybe 36" to 48"

Re: Magna Flow
I have Flow Masters on my 66 mustang. The sound good but not as tuned as what others are describing above. My neighbor has what I thought were Magnaflows on his 350 Iroc. Then he told me they were $70 stainless steel mufflers from summit. They sound Awesome!! I will be buying these for my 65 Chevy. I wanna say that Magna Flow builds these mufflers for summit. and they are quite a bit cheaper. I will call and ask when I get around to it.

Re: Magna Flow
just watched the trucks episodes(thanks oldtrux) I liked the sound of that truck. Anybody have any pictures of exhaust setups on these trucks? Mine is tubbed so this creates a few problems trying to run it out the back.

Re: Magna Flow
I use one big Magnaflow on my 6.0 LS2. It is mounted under the bed just behind the cab and the exit is at the rear bumper, 2.5" pipes.
It is dead quiet at idle with no drone at all. It talks to you when you open it up as said above. To me it is perfect for a street car. TR

Re: Magna Flow
I had a magnaflow on my colorado and it sounded like a elephant farting in a metal trash can and droned like mad on the highway. I took it back and the muffler guy said it was because of the long pipe length between the exhaust manifold and the muffler, it was a big powerful standing wave. I put a dodge diesel mid pipe silencer on, cost 80 bucks installed, and the truck was transformed. Sounded great at idle, that 5 cylinder lope, and great at WOT, real authority, and best of all was almost silent on the highway. I thought maybe it was just me who liked it but people stopped me all the time to ask what exhaust system I had.
get a mid pipe if you have drone, something with a big bore, like a diesel silencer or even a big cherry bomb.
