Automatic swap...
So with a fresh 350 i scored i got a fresh TH350 as well. It's already mounted in with an auto cross member. I've got a question though. I want to do a floor shift but i'm not sure what to do. I've got the small hole where the shifter came through for the old 465 trans. Any ideas of how to keep a floor shifter and have it look nice? Not a fan of column shifts. Been driving a stick for too long for that lol. I suppose i could cut out the hole some and just mount a B&M or something onto the hump, and just make something to cover the gap on the sides left by the original hole?
any input is greatly appreciated! |

Re: Automatic swap...
I put in a B&M shifter but have seen some really nice Lokar and a couple of others. It is pretty straight forward. You may have to cut a new hole and patch the old one but not a real biggie. When you get ready shoot me a PM if you have questions. My install took about 3 or 4 hours.

Re: Automatic swap...
Do you have any pics underneath the shifter itself? I just would like to see how it's hooked up underneath to get an idea for it. I'll probably do the same thing and modify the tunnel to mount the shifter itself, but i feel like im missing some parts to connect to the transmission. Thanks a ton man!

Re: Automatic swap...
I'm lookin at the lokar shifters, and that might be exactly what i'm looking for actually. Keeps it way simpler, and i can probably just extend the hole some to get the shift rod through.

Re: Automatic swap...
buy the shifter, mount it without the shifter handle. see where the handle will go thru the floor, mark it and drill & cut your new hole & patch the old holes

Re: Automatic swap...
I had to make one hole at the top of my tunnel about an inch and a quarter and 4 bolt holes. Other than that your shifter should come with an adapter to hook up to your tranny. I will loook when I get home to see if I have any pics of the underside of the tunnel. 57Larry is spot on tho.

Re: Automatic swap...
Classic Truck magazine did the Lokar install over an existing 4 speed hump in one of the last 2 mags (don't remember which). They did the patch/weld route.

Re: Automatic swap...
Thanks a ton for the input everyone! I've definitely got my heart set on the Lokar Nostalgia shifter. Looking at the photos, and looking at how the transmission sits in the tunnel, it shouldn't require much, if any modification to the 4spd hump.
I appreciate it guys! Made my life a lot easier. |
