I didn't know those were rare. I have two, maybe three in the shed.

No biggie, hope that didn't come off as being smart. I have two in the shed and still have one on my CUCV. I figured I would just toss the two spares, but may try listing them to see if someone else can use them.

Sorry. I prefer to spend my time in salvage yards and scouting the back roads. So I can true GM pieces not that Chinese re-pop garbage. So IMHO someone who knows the inside of a catalog that well has an all together different dream and idea of a classic car and restoration or resto-mod than me. Don't be lazy put in the foot work and a little extra effort. There's something to be said for driving into a tree...like while staring at someones long lost love hiding in the trees behind their property. Something you cant do from your couch while paging through an LMC catalog with your cheeto stained hands. Any one else feel me? BTW since when is this such a negative site and environment? I'm posting something I thought might be of interest to someone.

Don't worry bout that guy. I don't know why his account is suspended but he has been a jerk on a couple of other threads I've read.

Re: rare engine oil cooler option on CL $50

The external oil coolers aren't 'common' as most trucks were small blocks. They were common on big-block trucks. I would caution buying a used set-up..... without knowing the condition of the motor it was pulled from, you risk damaging yours. Case in point: my BBC oil cooler set-up 'looks' new when looking it over but the main bearings caused the crank to seize in place. I'm pretty sure there's lots of little floaters within the tubes of that sucker. The only portion of it I'm re-using is the adapter.

All 3 of my small block trucks have them. I think they were ordered that way, maybe a plow prep sort of thing in the Northeast.

By 'common' I meant standard equipment vs optional. Big blocks were known to run a little hotter so an oil cooler was more common & thus would be standard equipment.

Re: rare engine oil cooler option on CL $50

str8 question, could i get some pix of the setup? I have a 78 blazer that I want to option out further than what it is now. I scrapped a 75 burb that had it on the spid but somebody before me stripped all the good stuff and reinstalled crap?

I called the number but no answer.

Thanks, Steve

Ditto on the cleanliness. I wouldn't run a used one without having the core flushed out by a radiator shop or transmission shop with a cooler flushing setup. Also, take it to place that can do hydraulic hoses and have them install new hoses on it. Those hoses are at least 20+ years old at this point, but may even be 30+ years old depending on what year truck it came on.

Re: rare engine oil cooler option on CL $50

The three I have look just like what's in the ad listed above, except mine all went to the radiator and not a separate, stand alone cooler. I can get you some close ups of the sandwich adapter if that's what you're looking for.

Re: rare engine oil cooler option on CL $50

Is there a reasonably priced new/aftermarket alternative to the factory setup?

I see transdapt has a sandwich adapter. Is the core any different from a transmission cooler?

I've wondered about this myself.

Re: rare engine oil cooler option on CL $50

I was able to get ahold of the guy selling the oil cooler. He also had a couple of other options I needed for my blazer, so good score.
I will have a friend who owns a trans shop flush it and another local guy can replace the hoses with ac/delco repo hoses.

I got the A/T, Engine and power steering coolers complete with all bolts, brackets etc except for 2 gaskets, GM still services those.

Wait, you actually got someone to ship you something from CL?

Everyone I try to buy from is paranoid of scams, or trying to live off the grid without a bank or paypal account (despite the fact they're posting things on the internet?!)
