...just put in a 77 booster n ms in my 68, redid the lines n all to fit along with the rod to pedal extention, bled all four, pumped felt solid, but started up n pressed....darn thing went alllllll the way to the floor and a loud sucking sound coming from where it enters the firewall....guess I picked a bad booster at the junk yard... All weeks work n effort WASTED

Yeah, very good point, i knew I had the chance of being bad, but felt good in the original truck, entire truck was clean, no crashes, good tires, windows n very clean engine bay so I thought maybe...i might be lucky, oh well....30 bucks, learned a few things, and learned the hard way....again ha

elf, don't beat yourself up too much, or let these guys beat you up.
You took a gamble and came out on the wrong end. It happens. Most cars/trucks never end up needing a booster. They get there initial issue booster, and when they get crushed, they are still wearing the exact same one. It was a fairly safe gamble.
I highly doubt anyone would have replace the booster upon buying that "clean, no crashes, good tires, windows n very clean engine bay " truck unless it tests bad.

Unless it's been too long time wise , Gather it up and let them swap out another one . I have used salvage yard boosters and come out good .

The key thing that would tip me off is it is NOT wrecked. When I go to the sale to buy wrecks[I rebuild late model trucks and suv's] I will walk wide away from one there that has little to no damage. Why would it be there if it is not damaged? For the most part people that lose a vehicle to a crash are happy with not thinking of getting rid of it. They may be getting close to the relief that a payoff brings and are looking forward to losing a monthly. Also cars[trucks] very seldom are wrecked setting in a shop somewhere because it needs work . I have been rebuilding since 1987 and have had very good luck with parts both selling and buying or using off of wrecks. I do agree that some parts should be bought new however, I'm just saying that if I were looking at a motor in two trucks setting side by side one hit one not, I'm removing bent metal to get drivetrain.

That's what J/Y is all about getting a part and seeing if it works. If you haven't had it very long take it back and exchange it.
Most vehicles never change the booster as stated they out live the vehicle in most cases.

yup, gambled, i knew i could only really tell if the booster was bad was pump it, starter her up and well there...i couldn't starter her up, but yeah ill be going back soon, its a fun learning experience. i like to gamble.... cm-on, 30 bucks for ms, dual booster, a donner cluster and sold the old master cylinder for 10. so its really not too bad. not like I'm in a huge money pit, im keeping busy, out of the wifes hair, ha!

Just take a mighty-vac with you to the JY. Put a vacuum on the booster and see if it holds.
