Driver Side Door Not Staying Open
Passenger side works great, but driver side swings open and won't stay.
Do I just need the hinge pin and a spring? or just a spring? http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cc/full.aspx?Page=17 Last edited by chrohm; 09-25-2011 at 06:34 PM. |

Re: Driver Side Door Not Staying Open
Sounds like the spring and rollers are probably shot or really worn. My spring on the drivers side had a 1/8 inch deep groove worn in it from having a bad pin/bushing for so long. I was able to fill in the groove with weld and grind it back smooth. You might be better off finding a whole hinge somewhere or buying a new one.

Re: Driver Side Door Not Staying Open
I'd try the gear looking roller thing. Sorry I don't know what it's called. When you open the door, it hangs on the teeth of the gear to hold the door in place. My passenger door is fine to but over time the gear on my drivers door broke so I have the same problem. The gear is on the upper hinge if you want to check.

Re: Driver Side Door Not Staying Open
My door opens and closes fine, just doesn't stay open. Turned out that part # 10, the almost "S" shaped piece of steel rod, was broken in half and did not engage the roller gear, the top half was just hanging in there. That piece of steel rod and the gear is what holds the door in position when opened.
