Wheel Base

I have an opportunity to get a 85 front cross member and I would like to know if it is worth it?

On 64 -66 C10's how does changing the front cross member to a later model cross member affect the wheel base? I have heard that it moves the front wheels forward about 1" to 1 1/4" inches and also centers the front wheels in the wheel wells of our trucks?

Re: Wheel Base

I've never heard that before. If set up the same as the original crossmember the wheelbase is exactly the same as before. From what I've read, the swap does move the wheels outboard 3/4" per side. I never noticed the difference in track width until reading it on this forum 10 years after the swap, since I always ran custom wheels.

If you haven't seen the thread, here's the most comprehensive thread on this swap available on the internet:

Re: Wheel Base

I think the dropmember is the one that moves them forward...

Re: Wheel Base

the later model crossmember moves the wheels out 3/4" per side for a total of 1.5" increase in track not wheelbase, it would be nice if it moved it forward but it does not. Kieth
