Body laying on transmission--help!
I just put a 700r4 in my 66. It previously had a 400th. Now the transmission is butting up to the "pinch weld" in the trans tunnel. the only difference is I moved the crossmember about 4 inches. I need to drop the tail about an inch to give me clearance. The truck has a low tunnel floor in it. (is that why everyone likes the high tunnel?) Just wondering if anyone else has had an issue. Do I need a different crossmember?

Take some pics of where it's hitting and we can help you out a bit more knowing exactly what's going on.

Re: Body laying on transmission--help!
I used newer style motor mounts (91 burb) moved forward all the way and used a cpp transmission crossmember. My 350 700r4 cleared just fine. (very lucky wasn't I) Kieth

Re: Body laying on transmission--help!
I'll try to get some pictures tonight, may be hard to tell. The truck is back together. Had i known there would have been a clearance problem I could have trimmed or bent the pinch weld. It's a lot more difficult at this point.

I know that when member Chevy Fleetside installed his 700R4 he had to bend that lip back to get it to fit.

Re: Body laying on transmission--help!
That is what I did with both trucks. It only hits at the top so if you be nice with a hammer and bend the lip back about 1/2" it will clear. Can you see it in this picture? Just follow the lip and you will see how little it has to move. Oh yeah. easier to do with the tranny is not in there.
