If you had to choose...68 or 72 C10 Long beds

So I am really torn right now, I picked up a 68 C10 that needs a lil body work, runs good strong 350, but i probably paid a little to much for based on the work thats needed. As i am finding parts to put together my 68 I find a 72 C10 that needs absolutly no body work run equally as well and is about the same price i paid for the 68 i kinda hate to pull the plug on the 68 so fast but less body work is very tempting...so the question is if you had a choice of which yrs to restore which would it be

Might as well keep both.

I like the looks of the 68 grill better, but the 72 has a couple of advantages:
Less body work
front disk brakes
5 lug wheels
nicer looking door panels (IMO)

Of course if you bought the 72, you could always swap the 68 front clip over to the 72 and have the best of both worlds.

In primer scares me.

A primered project usually means its hiding a bunch of bad body work, at least around here.

I would look it over real close, with a magnet, to decide if it really does not need body work.

I bet your 68 actually needs less.

The one that requires the least amount of bodywork is the one I would go with.

Welcome to the board!

Cool Re: If you had to choose...68 or 72 C10 Long beds

72 hands down.
You get disk brakes 5 lug wheels and 4 years of extra technolgy!
If you can afford it buy it and swap the front end ono the 72 frame and have the best of both worlds!

It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: If you had to choose...68 or 72 C10 Long beds

Just installed disc brakes from a 71 under my drum brake 70 and it's a wonderful feeling to see the light change and have confidence I can stop without pushing someone into the intersection. Not too much technology difference in these years but brakes are a very big deal.
A wise old body man once told me the best primer over bare metal is old paint that has stuck for 30 years. He felt better about his new paint sticking to old paint than trusting someone else's primer that might not have good prep underneath. Whenever I see a complete primer coat I suspect a bad prep job. If owner could afford to put it in a good shop and do it right it would be already covered with fresh paint so I suspect the primer was a budget job in his bro in law's driveway.

I would go with the '72 just because it's "newer",but having two would be the best

Re: If you had to choose...68 or 72 C10 Long beds

Thanks for the warm welcome!!! I decided to go with the 68...I am sure I will be kicking myself for it later, but I really do like the slope of the 68 hood and the basic grill, I will definately need to upgrade to disc brakes i damn near jumped on the brake the other night and still rolled into the intersection a few feet to far LOL...i will post pics of the progess...huge auto show in Pomona this weekend i hope to score some items to help with the restore

Re: If you had to choose...68 or 72 C10 Long beds

Dont feel bad. I just sold my 72 to buy a 68. The 72 stopped faster but the style of the 68 is cooler so in the end I am glad I did it.

Re: If you had to choose...68 or 72 C10 Long beds

I would go for the 68. You can see that body lines don't match up on the 72 and even in primer I can see bad body work on the bed and dents in the fender. Flat primer hides a lot of small dents and wavy bond.

Go ask your wife/ girlfriends opinion....then do the exact opposite. That's what I always do.

What are the SPID options. Lets do a side-by-side comparison.

The 72 has a nice stance
