To much rake? What's your all's opion?

Hey everybody just finished the rest of drop on my 69 GMC today put a new master cylinder on and bled all the lines. I had posted another picture of my 69 GMC short stepper a couple of days ago but the picture was not good as it was getting dark. I have 3" lowering springs up front with new 2 1/2" drop spindles and a 5" rear leaf flip kit on back and running 235/75's on back and 215/70's up front. Now with all that being said I think that it is has a little to much rake? I thought that a lowering shackle of 1-2inches would get me there and still look good or maybe take a leaf out but I don't know if that is a good thing or not as I only have 3 springs in a pack plus a thick flat overload spring on the bottom, maybe remove one spring? Or drop tire size? But I still like the fullness this tire gives in the rear well. What do you guy's think? I sometimes get confused and it helps to get more thoughts and opinions. I hope that this truck is turning out OK with the looks of the lowering process? Well thanks again everybody for all the continued help! I really need all I can get! Thanks Robert the newbie

Truck is looking good, nice work. I wouldn't call the rake too much but 1" lower in the rear would look better to my eye.

I agree, the rear could use an inch or so more drop, throw something heavy in the back and see how you like it. It doesn't look at all bad the way it is now though! You have a very nice truck!

How much thread do you have hanging out of the rear u-bolt nuts?
I wonder if you could just add a 1"-1.5" lowering block.
That would slightly affect shock angle and length,... but maybe you could fab some shock extentions.

Hey Keith,
I have close to 2" or more of thread past the nuts. What type of block would I put? Just have to fabricate some type of metal spacer? Remember I have leaf springs in back will a block work with leafs? By the way I should get my 7" rallies mid week for the front!!!! I think I got a real deal on them. Robert

like i said in your other thread...1 more inch in the back and your stance/tire combo will be dead solid perfect imo. those 7 inch rallies you just bought from brad are the finishing touch, and will pull in your front tires just right.

I'm thinking maybe a little wider and ~not as tall tire in the rear? .. If I recall correctly your tires are 28.9" tall in the rear now. I think a 255/70/15 is 29.1" (not much difference at all, not worth the $ IMO) 255/60/15 is ~2" shorter than a 235/75 .. Would drop the rear overall but may not 'stuff it like you want. 275/60/15 Is right at 28" tall, but I'm not sure it would tuck under the stepper fenders. I'm thinking no. someone else might have tried before.

Keith might be on it. .. 1-1.5" drop block. Would the drive shaft length become an issue at that point? I have an ext. cab S10 that has been dropped and I am running .5" set back plates to adjust. Just something to think about. Ex. The truck used to be what 4" higher and the factory drive shaft was measured at that height. When it's lowered the rear end housing becomes slightly closer to the transmission tail shaft and kinda 'jams the driveshaft into the transmission when you hit big bumps. The set back plates adjust the length so you can run the factory length drive shaft. (At least on the S10's) .. Just something to consider. Does the flip kit correct the pinion angle too?

The block would be just like a "lift block" for a 4x4 truck.
It would need a centering hole and a pin to keep the reared in check.
Similar to an s10 lowering block.

I love this truck's stance and looks, also remember the suspension will settle some after you drive it a bit.

I like the rake, it goes with the style of your truck. If you had bigger wheels and more rubber bandy tires a more evenly lowered look works better.

i dont like level trucks. i like a natural rake so when i carry a load(i believe in hauling)it is not a taildragger

I like it just as it is. I think it looks great! It's got the right look and is still functional to hual with. Why are you going to 7" wheels? The rallys you have look great on it in my opinion anyway.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

When I added the front drop spindles and disc brakes your truck's front travel path will gain approximately 2" and I didn't know this would happen until I was told by some of the other members here so this will get the front end back in line with the rear end wheels and tuck the front wheels back under the fender and give you a little more clearance, if you are standing in front of the truck you can tell the difference in width. Thanks guys for all the positive feedback on the stance! Yes it is a personal preference when you are customizing your truck but it does help when you get some feedback from others that have "been there, done that" saves time and money and just maybe you will be reveled a new thought or a new way of doing things. Slight rake is good. Yours is barely detectible. I'd wash my hands and drive it. Consider clearance between ale and frame,too.

I think a truck needs a little rake to look right, but you need to do what ever it takes to make you happy with the look.

i like`em low, but it looks great just the way it is. If the rear is under the leafs then a block will raise the truck, blocks will only lower it if the rear sits on top of the spring. (unless the axle is flipped but thats another story).
