Once and 4 all.......66' GMC Bucket seat question?
I almost had to put some one in "chin check" again over the weekend. But is this seat a real one year only 66 GMC bucket seat or not????? I've owned a lot buckets seats of both Chevy's and Dodge's,
I do know that it has a straight front bar frame, and taller middle seat, but it bolted up to my Chevy like it belonged there. Please no guesses, Thanks

I had a 69 Dodge A100 truck with that same seat in it...always thought it was factory.

Re: Once and 4 all.......66' GMC Bucket seat question?
As were finding a lot of parts on the trucks came from, or shared, from the passenger car line, does anyone recognize the seats from any of GM's other products?

In the the linked thread you'll find them listed in the rpo sheet. Thats evidence enough for me, and you guys thought the later buddies were rare.

Re: Once and 4 all.......66' GMC Bucket seat question?
Just like GMC's in general being rare, these seats are quite rare.....Guys in the 67 to 72 chevrolets pay $1500.00 for a simalar set of buckets, then have to rebuild and recover them, that means these GMC buckets are really valuable. Kieth

Re: Once and 4 all.......66' GMC Bucket seat question?
Read in a thread that Bostrom who supplied GM with the Viking T-Bar seats for the 1961-66 Light ,Medium and Heavy duty trucks built the Buddy Buckets. Can anyone verify that?

Re: Once and 4 all.......66' GMC Bucket seat question?
I have the same exact seat. It is out of a 1966 GMC truck.
Your seat is without a doubt a 1966 GMC seat. The 66 seat frame is Taller than a 67-68 buddy bucket seat. 66 Consoles are the exact same as 67-68 buddy bucket. The back seat rest is taller but the console is exactly the same. 66 seat tracks are the exact same as 67-68 My seat has the exact same seat covers as yours, pattern, and colors. straight pipes on a 66 seat frame 67-68 jog back for the console. I have not measured yet but a 1966 seat frame bolted into a 1967-1972 truck although it will bolt right in may place your head to close to to the headliner, the frame is about an inch and a half taller. The 1960-1964-66 trucks had more headroom than the 1967-72 trucks. |

Re: Once and 4 all.......66' GMC Bucket seat question?
This is a word for word copy of the 1966 GMC dealer brochure.
".1966 GMC 1500 Design remained the same from previous years on the ’66 GMC although some engine changes were made including the 170hp V6 engine or the 351 cu. in. V6 engine with 220hp. Inside, the cab features two walls of steel and a thick pad of insulation and seats are foam-padded and the backs are fully adjustable. Also available are bucket seats, padded dash, carpeting, padded door trim and custom sports interior. Standard features include a painted front bumper, electric wipers, fuel filter and four 7 x 17.5 black sidewall tires. Truck bed is made of wood instead of metal and the front features four headlights instead of two." Yes your seat is a 1966 GMC only seat. Neat piece !!

Re: Once and 4 all.......66' GMC Bucket seat question?
Yes the GMC accessory seats you show are for 65 and 66 BIG 40-60 series or "B" series trucks and Van buckets, not the 1000 1500 2500 series buddy bucket bench seat that C-10 King is showing. The info I quoted is for the light duty trucks. C-10 Kings seat was also used with padded door panels only available in 66. Im trying to locate the brochure on that.

Re: Once and 4 all.......66' GMC Bucket seat question?
LOL, yeah I thought that would get someone's attention. Many of the brochures were printed early in production before options or concepts actually made it into production. I have a few that were revised later on. Here's the 66 brochure . Read the one with the yellow stepside.

Re: Once and 4 all.......66' GMC Bucket seat question?
C/10 King those are definitely 66 GMC pickup buddy bucket seats. I had a set years ago in a 66 gmc and shoot my self for ever getting rid of them.
60-66 That is cool putting the factory brochures on. I have some myself I will have to share. I looked at a 66 gmc C1500 to buy a few years ago that had the padded dash but I cant find the photos I thought I had. |

Re: Once and 4 all.......66' GMC Bucket seat question?
Some do some don't. Next time someone says "GMC's were the work trucks" have them explain why GMC offered these seats in '66 as a regular option (Sports Trim) while Chevy did not.

Re: Once and 4 all.......66' GMC Bucket seat question?
Rene, now that I've pulled myself back up off the floor after falling out of my seat, just to double check... did you actually say D-O-D-G-E??
Ha. Cool seats. Glad you got your answer! |

Re: Once and 4 all.......66' GMC Bucket seat question?
60-66 The correct carpet was a brown color. I wouldn't call it fawn but it was a light brown color. I will see if I can find some more photos.
P.S. I like you collection of 4x4s. |
