2011 Adventures & Trips in pictures: Lots of BIG pictures!

It seems the 2011 Adventure season is all but a memory now. 2011 brought two major upgrades to my old rig which made the 5,000+ miles of playtime much more enjoyable. The first upgrade being a NV4500 5 speed manual trans with Overdrive and the second being a new 2011 custom built Phoenix camper. Over the past 7 months the camper racked up 21 sleeping nights on the trail in temperatures from over 120 degrees down to the teens in the Colorado high country.

Phoenix Camper’s maiden voyage – Deweese reservoir, Westcliffe, CO May 2010

First night in the camper. Just an over night trip

Utah Trip – Late June/Early July

Cactus Salad. Very appropriate side dish for this trip

First night we met up with another friend from Phoenix where we camped outside of Moab a few miles in preparation for our trip to the White Rim trail over the next few days

Rainbow Lake – Near Westcliffe, CO September.

This lake is dang near dry! The story goes that firefighters sucked the water out to fight the Duckett fire this summer.

Haha, Zoomad75 stuck in the mud at the shoreline! I offered to wrap the winch cable around his neck but he didn't see the humor in that for some reason.

I finally caught a couple decent fish though! Took all dang summer it seems.

Deweese Reservoir again for a quick over nighter with my neighbor and his buddy. Late September

Check out my neighbors buddy’s old camping rig. He bought it new in 1971.

Larry,
Great trip pics as usual! That one of Zoomad is a good one.
The signature is impressive considering how old you are!
That snow is getting to close for comfort. I'm not quite ready for it!

Thanks guys! The camper makes it a lot more fun to get out for several days at a time. Can’t wait until next year!

John,

We’ll see how funny Rob thinks that picture is when he finds this thread! That is almost as good as the time he did a backasswards barrel roll in the snow as he was pulling a tree out of the trail when it snapped in half sending him flying arsehole over apple carts. As far as the siggy….I started collecting early... The ’68 I’ve had since I was 15 years old and I inhearted the ’63 Corvair last year when my dad passed away. The rest I picked up along the way. I'm not ready for snow either! To heck with winter!

Gorgeous scenery, and looks like you all had a lot of fun at the same time.
I would love to see that part of the country like you did someday.

Re: 2011 Adventures & Trips in pictures: Lots of BIG pictures!

Cool pics. It was fun getting to ride along for once. As far as the photo of me stuck in the mud, I knew I was not going to live it down when you came back to help and had to shoot me stuck first. Then to offer the winch line to rescue me...I knew I was screwed.

It's all in fun anyway. I'm here to entertain! At least I didn't loose my teva in the process of extracting my foot from the grip the mud had on it. That and the fact you turned on the water heater so I could rinse the crap off my leg and not freeze in the process. That's camping in luxury in my book.

Honestly and in all seriousness I'm proud as hell of what you've put together and been able to do with it. The whole rig is one tight package that works without any wasted efforts. Every space is utilized and every part has it's purpose. The run we made with it lacked squeaks, rattles or any ill-handling traits. If somebody didn't know riding you'd think it's been run and dialed in years ago, not having just installed a 5-speed and the camper months ago. New 2012 Silverado's don't pull or handle like yours does. It's a jaw dropper weather you are passing somebody on the road at 80 never pulling out of 5th or rumbling down an embankment to the shore of a high mountain lake shocking the hell out of some old dude on shore. It's like a 4x4 version of a sleeper hot rod. Sure it's clean and in great shape, but it will crawl like a goat and go places where Full size trucks don't normally go with a kick-arse camper on it's back to boot! It's an inspiration to a me and to many. Way to go dude!

We need to start planning ahead for our holiday snow run too!

Its great to see you put together such a well designed rig and actually get a chance to get out there and use it. The thing about 4wds that attracts me is they make an everyday vehicle into something with added purpose. The factory builds them and a person takes it from there to adapt it to a more useful purpose, whether it be backcountry exploration, wilderness rescue, ranch hand, construction vehicle, pipeline welder, surf fishing, and on.
I look forward to next year,as am sure you do too. Now go wash that thing so you don't leave mud on the mall parking lot!

My K20 will be retired this weekend and put in the back of the barn for who knows how long. But whenever I bump in to your threads it sure gets me to thinking how cool would it be to do what you do with your truck and friends.

Thanks for all the cool adventure photo's. Its fun to live vicariously!
