a/c retrofit

Hello everyone new member here ! I'm a long time reader first time poster. I own a 71 Chevy cst long bed with a 350 backed by a 700r4 . My first question is I want to install a serpentine setup from 88 to 94 Chevy truck which Ive seen plenty of good threads over, but can that same model A/c system go in my truck as well ? I have an A/c truck already , but everything needs to be replaced . Oh and I will post pics ASAP ! I know how much we love seeing them ! Thanks in advance .

Re: a/c retrofit

From what I understand[witch ain't much sometimes!] You can use the r4 compressor that comes on the 88-95[ MY 96 is when the brakets changed. ][Also the 88-89 brakets were one piece metal you don't want them they are ugly] will work with a POA upgrade kit. They are availible from several places that sell us parts. Also. s-10 front acc. brakets from 88.5-95[ with 4.3] are the same braket as the c-k series trucks.

Re: a/c retrofit

Nice setup ! Is the orfice and Evap setup the same year model as the serpentine system or is it that retro kit that is sold for our trucks ? Another thing does the fan on that serpentine setup work with our original shroud ?

The serp setup was from a 95 blazer. I took the truck to a ac shop and a guy put in a new evaporator and matched a 33103 accumalator to it and then made all new hoses for my system. I have to get all the part numbers out of the truck and post them. He pulled my old evap core and sent it to a shop and they matched it up so that they didnt have to cut my ac box.

Re: a/c retrofit

I'm planning on trying to do this exact same thing. I bought a 91 chevy pickup that I'm putting the TBI 350 into my 69....and since I have the donor truck I'm going to try to put the A/C in the 69 too.

There is another board member on here that had at least started on it, not sure if he finished it, and didn't give a whole lot of details on the subject.

If I can get it all to work out, I"m going to write up a "how to"....unless you beat me to it.

Re: a/c retrofit

Here are the part numbers for my AC setup, I can do pics, but send me a email address, I hate sizing these pics to get them to fit.

Evaporator came from a 96-2005 Chevy Astro Van (Id have to take the case a part to get a number off it) but it fit into old case with no mods.
Accumalator PN 33103
R4 conversion brackets from Old Air products 40-4218
New Belt from NAPA 060984 (bigger clutch than original)
25 Amp relay for pusher fan
FLX-112 fan from summit racing for condensor, its a pusher 12 in fan
AC Parts warehouse out of TX sanden comp SD7H15

The ac shop made the lines and added the orfice tube. So far so good.
