Can someone decode a block for me?
I got a 70 swb truck in a couple of weeks ago and was told that it has a 327 in it. I offered in correction 307? the truck has a pretty small spid no brakes or power steering, no air noof everything. Imade the assumption that it would be the 307. They assured me it was a 327. I bought ot from the local school district and supposedly the man that drove it was the only one allowed to do so and he was in charde. When the 327's were being phased out in the gererals inventory they purchased one for this truck. ans with just a few years left they installed it for him. He drove it till the day he retired and then they parked it till I bought it. That is the story sorry to ramble as I often do but the numbers are VOT23YH. Any help in decoding would help me figure out witch cam may be best for me and what not. Jim

Re: Can someone decode a block for me?
Is that the number stamped on the pad up by the head? If so that is specific to the vehicle it came in. Need the block casting number.

Re: Can someone decode a block for me?
Suffix code "YH" comes out to a 327 used in either 1966 or 1967 C10 - C30 trucks.

Re: Can someone decode a block for me?
I just found the list of suffix codes, didn't know until now that you can get info from those. Good to know!

This is one of the better sites to find suffix codes.

Re: Can someone decode a block for me?
It could also be a 1968 327. To find out year it is we need the date code off the block....
EDIT It could also be a 1965

Re: Can someone decode a block for me?
I will pull a valve cover to get the head casting number, and try to dig out some of the oily muck on the rear pad to get the clock readings and the casting numbers.

Re: Can someone decode a block for me?
hugger, we don't know which 327 you have till we get that date code. It should be at the back of the block.
1965 YH 327 is 185hp 1966 YH 327 is 220hp 1967 YH 327 is 220hp 1968 YH 327 is 240hp
