Any thoughts on Powder Coating My White Trim?

I have white bumpers, wheels, hubcaps, and mirrors. And I plan to keep them that way. I thought about getting all these parts powdercoated white at the same time so it would all match and be very durable. Anyone see any issues with that? Originally I was going to sandblast and paint but I know the Wheels would hold up much better with powder coat, and I want all the "whites" to match. Got a price today of $600 for both bumpers, 5 wheels, 4 hubcaps and two mirrors.....

been having stuff done for quite awhile, you just need to know your coater some do great work some not

I've seen some good and some bad powder jobs. Nice powder will look great and hold up better on those parts than paint.

Sounds like a good deal. I paid $340 to do a set of wheels so your quote sounds about right.

Yes, Ive seen some of his work and everone I know that had stuff done there was real happy. Heres the break down

(5) wheels @ $60 Ea,
(4) Hubcaps @ $15 Ea,
(2) Bumpers @ $120 Ea.
He is going to try one mirror first to see if he can do it than the other. They were cheap enough. If he messes them up I can always do stainless. Rather do the white tho.

problem I see is rock chips, and touch ups bumpers and grills can get tons of those

Sounds about right, do they sand blast them/prep them too?

Yes they do sand blast them as well. I am waiting for my dedicated blaster to call me back about simply blasting all said parts so I can weigh that cost too. I have the paint already and like the idea of future possible touch ups (As mentioned) so I have to think on it. More worried about how easilt the hubcaps will scratch once painted every time they need to be removed. But Id hate to get a chip in the front bumber and not be able to touch it up. (Although I guess re-powder coating would be an option....

Seems a little steep for the bumper. It's going to way easier to do than a wheel. Wheels are really tough to do nicely down where the centers meet the outters.

I would make sure that whoever does them puts a Ultra Violet protection on them so they wont fade. Ive seen a few grills that have turned flat because the coating wasn't protected from UV. Im not sure if thats because of inferior products or if its just what happens to unprotected Powder coating.

Well I bit the bullet today. After getting a $400 price to sandblast all the same parts so I could spray them. -$100 in paint. seemed $100 should be worth the labor and time Ill save. Plus I can work on the bed now this weekend!

So $100 savings was the deciding factor? Powdercoating (especially wheels) is so much more durable than paint.

The whole point of powdercoat is it resists chips far better than paint. It would take an exceptional flying object to chip the bumper. If it does chip you can touch nit up with a dot of paint. Poly powdercoat is for exterior and doesn't fade. It's the epoxy type that fades,so no worries there. I've been having parts powdercoated for over 30 years and that price doesn't sound so bad. It's the sandblasting that adds to the cost. Powdercoating is actually a reasonably priced way to go...often cheaper than paint. I pay $65 per wheel for blasting and powdercoat with an outfit I've dealt with since day-1. You made a good choice. The only problem,if it is to some,is the color isn't the same as factory. But,when it all matches it doesn't matter to most.

Yea, He had many whites to choose from so we matched to one I liked. I was thinking that the front bumper would be that much stronger and god frbid it did chip I could use a bit of white touch up. This trucks gonna be show and sunday drives only. So I dont anticapate too many miles each year anyhow. But Id like it to be around long enough to leave to my son down the road..
