Remote starter in '86

I have a 1986 K5 that I am looking to put a remote starter, wondering if anyone has gone down this road and if you have any advice. With it having a carb I need to line up my A/C solenoid to push the throttle and have it give a little gas when it cranks, or else it will just sit there and try to start over and over again.

I am not sure what you mean by associating more gas needed with remote starter, but the remote starter issue has a contentious history on this forum. Some are opposed to them, believing that you are just covering up a problem with your stock starter/solenoid/wiring arrangement. Others, like me, think they improve starting by addressing "heat soak" in the stock starter/solenoid setup. You should search "remote starter" on this forum for a complete (and heated) discussion.
If recommend a manual choke for any choke related hard start conditions - less than $15 experiment - well worth the effort. Likely any cold start issues will be overcome with a manual choke.

The reason I want a remote start is due to this truck being my winter beater, and i would love to hop in a warm winter beater, not a cold one. The truck has the electric choke on it right now. What I have been told is that due to it having a carb the remote start isn't going to work very well seeing as when you start the vehicle manually you typically give it a pump of gas.

I've always just run a door lock solenoid under the hood that pulls the throttle before startup. Simple and works great

cochino-- what part number did you use and how exactly did you have it wired/set up, if you don't mind sharing.

I am thinking of trying to get the a/c solenoid lined up to give the throttle a push, but problem is that it is always engaged when the ignition is on, so it won't return to the off position once the vehicle has started.

the AC solenoid won't push enough,it just raises the idle

electric choke it should run fine i would think

The pedal still needs a good push to set the choke up.

motornut-- The A/C solenoid in the stock position is not enough to move it, so I am thinking of fabbing a bracket so that it sits underneath the throttle and pushes a part of the linkage up and that should pop it enough.

not sure if that even in a different spot ,that only moves a little bit
you need a good pedal to floor to set it up
i looked into years ago 92 i think and looked at a custom setup done by Derand
and it was a door lock type part mounted in carb area
I didn't bother,the viper i got sometimes it would fire up while warm
wouldn't bother in the winter,but use the autostart after you start it
start like norm,in park push the starter button,take the key out
or park with it running,push,remove key,run into store,come out and put key in drive away
most do this still today

Alright, thanks for the tips. I will have to look around the web and see if I come up with anything. I wouldn't bother with the remote start if I didn't have to go to school in January, the one I bought has a timer on it so I was planning on setting it up so that it turns on for ten mins before the bus arrives. If I wasn't going to school then I would just start and then go sit in the shop for a bit while it got warm.
