3M works for me.

I bought the push on style from GMC Paul's. So far has worked great and didn't have to use any adhesive.

Re: What type of adhesive do you use on the Door weather seals?
No. They don't look original. If you're looking to keep it orginal you have to get the glued on type. I have a new set of the original type but didn't like to have to mess with the glue since I want to paint it inside and out sometime in the future.

3M weatherstrip adhesive is the best, comes in yellow or black also known as "gorilla snot"

Re: What type of adhesive do you use on the Door weather seals?
Good luck.
I did put new door seals from classic industries and never were sticked well. 3M yes is good but finally I did put one from Dodge Dakota and don't need any glue. |

The 3-M weatherstrip ad. works good. Use the black. It looks OK if a little oozes out the edge. The yellow looks bad. Get a fresh tube. When its stale it is hard to spread.

Re: What type of adhesive do you use on the Door weather seals?
if youre going 100% original then have fun with the glue stuff ... but the push on seals are so much nicer and soooooo much easier to deal with....

Re: What type of adhesive do you use on the Door weather seals?
The trick to using 3M or similar is to run a small bead around the seal groove and a small bead around the fin on the cab.....smear both flat with a butter knife or whatever...and let them tack-up for a minute or two. Then put them in place. Start at the bottom center over the rocker and work your way up and around and then seal them up where they come together. You may have to trim the end when you get there but that's easy. Your sill plate hides the joint so don't worry how that part looks.
The key to this is run SMALL beads and don't wait too long or you will lose tack. Done right you won't need clamps or anything else. The sealant bonds to itself quickly. Thanks to the 3M rep on "My Classic Cars" TV show for this info!

Re: What type of adhesive do you use on the Door weather seals?
gmcpauls push on seals are the BEST. just look at the review board. a 5 year old can install them. they seal nice and tight and are way better than the original glue on seals in every way possible.

Re: What type of adhesive do you use on the Door weather seals?
I just ordered a set from Paul for my 67 Slantback...since it's a King Rat looks won't matter. Gotta look original on my 70 build though. Thanks

Re: What type of adhesive do you use on the Door weather seals?
It will make the corner but it will be a bit rounded. I hit mine with a deadblow hammer (also a rubber mallet could be used) to get it to seat as much as possible.

Re: What type of adhesive do you use on the Door weather seals?
Thanks webfoot....I think that if this is to be installed correctly it has to be wedge cut and resealed with black 3m...not exactly the job for a 5 year old. I'm not being negative but before shelling out $50 it would have been nice to know these need modified.
Don't get me wrong...I can do it but this is info that novices need to know up front. I will post this fix when I do it so others can learn but if someone has done this already I'd like to see some pics or get more input before I start. If the wedge is cut too big on the first try the seal is ruined. If Paul jig cut and sealed these it would be the best I've seen. Brad Posted via Mobile Device

Re: What type of adhesive do you use on the Door weather seals?
I'll throw this out there....I would be willing to pay twice the price if these were profesionally fitted.
That would be about $100 a set. How about it Paul.... Posted via Mobile Device

Re: What type of adhesive do you use on the Door weather seals?
Hi there, I just installed a set of these on my '66 and never realized they had to be modified. My door will close but it's super tight and doesn't stay 'flush' with the body. If you can...will you post pix of how I'm supposed to modify to resolve this issue.
Thank you!! |
