Factory Oil Pressure Gauge
on my oil press. gauge, what should it be reading for an engine to be healthy? I know it doesn't have numbers, just the 4 squares. I thought my truck registered higher before, now it drops just below 1/2 when idling and is about 3/4 or more when I'm driving it . It seems to move along with how many rpm's I am running. I checked my oil level and its ok. What else could be the culprit? thanks

That's perfect oil pressure. Full scale is 60 psi, halfway is 30.

I was always told 10psi per 1000rpms is safe for a chevy engine. And the guage is 60psi like Duallie mentioned.

Mine pegs out high when at fast idle, but settles in at about the midpoint during normal idle. I used to be concerned that the pressure was too high, but whenever I've brought it up to others, I'm told there's nothing to worry about.

If you take enough dashes apart there are truck dashes that have 80 lbs oil pressure gages also. I find those in the c40-c50 range often.
