Firewall throttle linkage 1960 apache
Hi Guys, newbie on this forum but long time looker. Does any body have any pics of the throttle linkage from the firewall for a 1960 C-10 Apache. I installed a v-8 with Edelbrock carb. My linkage has 2 levers and they face downward and I need them facing upward. Need to be sure I have the right linkage before I cut, grind, and fabricate.

Re: Firewall throttle linkage 1960 apache
that looks like a 235 6 with the optional in dash throttle control. the v8's have the lever pointing straight up (180 from where yours is now)
that looks long enough to work for a v8 if you just flip it 180 degrees... and just delete the throttle cable attachment (the shorter thicker lever)

Re: Firewall throttle linkage 1960 apache
This is what the linkage looked like on my 1960 305 GMC. The vertical arm for a SBC might be about 3-4" shorter, because the V6 is that much taller.

Re: Firewall throttle linkage 1960 apache
Hey Guys thanks for the response. Looking on my linkage the shaft where the lever slides through is not round, that's why the lever faces down. I will need to drill out the lever and position it upward (tack weld in place) I probably will flatten the lever to get an inch longer but my measurements are still short. I need at least 1 1/2 to 2 inches longer to be good (total length on lever 5-6 inches) Heres sum pics of the lever and engine. 72bigred i'll shoot you a pm...thanks guys

Here are pictures of what you need .... As well as in this linkage the shaft where the lever slides through is not round either ... The trottle piece where the pieces all connect together isn't round also .. This linkage shound be the same as you need .. Its from a 63 with a SB Chevy ... Factory ... You can have it for the price of shipping ....

Re: Firewall throttle linkage 1960 apache
That is one cool looking truck, Doobie!! I had to fab the linkage for mine. Here is a couple of pics... I made mine for about $8.00 with pieces from a hardware store. Threaded aluminum rod and a heim link attached to the short arm. Works great for my setup.

Re: Firewall throttle linkage 1960 apache
Thanks, Doob. I saw them online too and thought to myself "Sam, you can make that!" So, there it is. about $8 in pieces and of course the tools were a bit more, but i'll use them for other things in the future, so that didn't get factored into the cost of the thing.

Re: Firewall throttle linkage 1960 apache
I just updated my carb, so I had to update my custom throttle linkage. I used my old set I made as a template and used heim joints (aka: rod end bearings) like the post above to make the new connections. I found a good how to do article here that includes a shopping list that worked. http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2...rottleLinkage/ Its a ford website but the custom linkage still works for our trucks.

Re: Firewall throttle linkage 1960 apache
I worked with a fellow hot rodder, he turned me on to the heim joint in 88. I used a piece of stainless. I had to take my engine out (350) and relized that all this time I was running with a short lever from the 6 cylinder I had before. found a longer one at the salvage and instant power, always wondered why it seemed that I never had much power. Never had full throttle! 20 years never had it. Boy I even feel stupid talking about it. I built mine way before we could have this much help from around the world.

Re: Firewall throttle linkage 1960 apache
I was fortunate when I installed my 305 w/ TBI. I measured the throttle linkage on the TBI and the linkage in the truck- from pivot point to where the rod connected was under 1/8" difference- so basically a 1:1 ratio. All I did was extend the rod about 2 1/2" and put a 45 degree bend at the rear to clear intake. Works smooth and have full throttle. Nice thing about TBI- has built in return spring.

Re: Firewall throttle linkage 1960 apache
Hello everyone, I am in a similar boat here. My throttle arm is the short one and im looking for the longer style V8 arm because of the swap. I have a 63 C10 and have done some searching but cant seem to find a replacement. Does anyone know where I can get one? Thanks for any help!

Re: Firewall throttle linkage 1960 apache
I pulled the whole pedal assembly with cable and bracket from a 94 Silverado. One of the best small upgrades I've made.
