Reproduction Window Run Felts... Nice Quality! - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I got the idea of changing out my felts (again) when I saw what Kieth did with his on Project: Ginger.
We both had the same issue, horrible quality with our reproduction parts. He discovered that Steele Rubber Products had some nice parts, bought them and had great success with them. So of course, I had to have some too.
After seeing the cost on the Steele Rubber Products web site I decided to do a little research to see if I could find them a little cheaper, here is what I found out. When Keith received his, he noticed right away that the box had come from PUI. I knew that PUI was not manufacturing them so I looked around a little more. The only company I could find actually producing them here in the US is a company in Arkansas called Repops who only sells to select venders.
Turns out that Classic Industries is one of them and sells the parts for a great price and in two flavors, stainless bead and chrome bead, I got the chrome. Hope this helps guys.

Thanks for researching this. I just added these to my list of gottahave parts.

I prefer using terms like "repro" or "reproduction". Repop sounds like recycled popcorn to me.

I also have to thank you for this information.

I've recently taken my old ones out during painting of my truck and the old ones were LM?s. I didn't care much for them and am needing to replace mine. I didn't want to put some other crummy ones in!

And made in the USA! How great is that?

"repop" is a generic term i use for anything aftermarket....however the actual company puts out high quality parts. they make a lot of stuff and i like all of their products.

What's the problem with the "brand x" felts? Are they too tight on the window? I have I-don't-know-what-brand repro felts on my truck, and the driver's side is so tight it ruined the window regulator.

Guys you do not want to order their black bead outter ones or you will not be happy just the SS or Chrome bead ones Also they are a lot of places cheaper than Steele on these. Same brand name Repops

I believe what Sean is saying is that Steele sells the same part for more money and he did the leg work to find a cheaper source with links provided:

Everything you need to know is there. My question is why would the chrome be more than the stainless? Is it chrome plated stainless? Stainless "always" costs more than chromed steel. The descriptions are both the same with no specific information.

You are correct, that is why I posted this... roughly half the price of anyone else I could find selling the same product.
The chrome are stainless also, thus the cost difference.

EDIT:Also, I mentioned Classic Industries because they actually stock the parts and I had mine in two days after ordering. Not the case with some of the other venders that I contacted.

Sean from looking at your pictures it appears you could improve the sealing & the anti-rattle aspects of these beltlines ( anti-rattles) even better by removing the vent window so you can repair the strap that connects the inner door & outer door skin together as there appears to be a gap at the base of your vent window in your pic. When the metal strap breaks from age/corrosoin & wear created by opening & closing the vent window it allows the door to spread apart at the top decreasing the effectiveness of the beltlines & seals. We also carry the Re-Pops brand & Precision brands which are 100% identical and I believe are made by Re-Pops for Precision. Both come with a lifetime warranty.
