1991 CCSWB: LQ4/4L80E Combo????
I am doing a 1991 1 ton CCSWB/SRW Project. I really want to do Duramax/Allison combo but have my hands full just doing a complete frame off resto. So for the time being I am thinking of going with a lq4/4l80e combo and saving the duramax for the future. I really want to have this on the road by summer 2012.
My question is, has anyone done or know of this combo in a CC and how did it work out for them? ie power/ towing etc? Thanks Chuck |

Mine's still in progress, so really can't say how it'll drive or tow... I used an LY6 engine package from Mast Motorsports which is hotter than stock so it'll probably do great. I'm also using a NV4500 rather than an automatic...
The LQ4's are terrific motors though & as long as you aren't trying to tow a bull dozer or anything you should be pretty good. Put some pics up of the truck!

My 86 had a LQ4/4l80e, I loved it. Tons of power. Check out the engine section of this forum, theres a LS swap sub section with overloads of info.

The LQ4/4l80e combo's have moved many Suburbans around w/o issue. The weight would be very similar or more vs. a CCSB conversion. The one's I've ridden in had power to spare even pulling a open car trailer.
Not as much grunt or efficiency as the diesel option.

Thanks guys, I figured it would do a decent job. By the way this is going to be 2wd if you didint know yet, Probably 4:10 gear ratio.
