Lokar shifter height

I need to order a lokar shifter for my 66, but I don't have the truck here to do my measureing. What height of shifter do you guy's have a picture would be great.
I will be using a reworked stock seat and the truck has a tall hump and I'm
6'5" I'm looking for just a comfortable reach.
Thanks for the help

Re: Lokar shifter height

I made my own out of round bar. I'll try to upload a pic but the knob sticks up over the dash. My is a Jeanie Shifter (which I think is very similar).

Not the best pic but you get the idea. I had the 16" like jchav62 (still have it if you are interested). PM me if so.

JC
Why did you use a floor mount and not a trans mount.

Re: Lokar shifter height

It does mount to the trans, then you cut a hole in the floor.

I figured I wouldn't have to cut a huge hole in the floor with a floor mount. Also, I heard that the trans mount shifters vibrate alot...

Re: Lokar shifter height

I used the 16 as well. Great height. I used a floor mount instead of a trans mount for a little flexibility in placement. Allowed me to place it left of center on the very edge of the hump. Looks just like Joe's above, just moved over a bit so I'll forgo adding another pic..

23" with after market adapter on a low hump, the adapter adds 2-3".

Re: Lokar shifter height

Here are shots of mine (high hump) when it had a 23” Lokar shifter mounted in the forward location. It fit through the original 4 speed hole after about ¼” of trimming.

And here it is later with a 16” Gennie shifter (also with an adjustable mount) after I pitched the Lokar:

FYI - I never got rid of the clutch pedal because I was always hopeful of going back to a manual 4 speed, which eventually happened.

There were several reasons.

1. I couldn’t change shift knobs which I often like to do (there were no adapters available back when I had my Lokar).

2. From day one the operating cable/rod inside the handle and the knob itself rattled which drove me nuts. Lokar subsequently released a revised knob with nylon around the edges. I installed one which was an improvement, but it didn’t help with the rattle in the handle.

3. Several times when not paying attention, I depressed the button in the knob with my thumb not centered on the button (too far forward). The sharp edge of the knob would quickly and painfully fold the thumb nail over backwards.

4. Living in North Idaho during the winter, temperatures frequently dropped well below freezing. When this happened, the grease in the handle would freeze solid immobilizing the shifter. This prevented moving the truck, and since this was my daily driver was more than just inconvenient. When the weather warmed up enough, I ran two full cans of WD40 down the handle and rinsed out all the grease. From this time on I could shift regardless of temperature, however the rattle became insanely loud challenging my mental faculties. I finally just couldn’t stand the rattle anymore and pulled the shifter. I gave it away as I didn’t feel good about selling it to anyone else.

Previously I had a Gennie Shifter in my 46 Ford. I loved that shifter but at the time I built the truck Gennie didn’t offer an adjustable mount. By the time I got rid of the Lokar, Gennie had released a similar style adjustable mount, so it was a no brainer for me.
