1970 C-10 vin and additional tag info

I've been stripping my door jamb where the vin is and see upon searching the board, there is a second metal tag SUPPOSED TO BE below the vin. first pic is one from the board (another members pic), second one is mine with only rivets where one would go. Is that just additional GWVR info on the second / missing one? My truck has a checkered past, i got truck from my dad, who purchased it new in 6/70. He wrecked it and put it on it's lid once and the front firewall and cab is the original med olive (unfortunately under the Root beer metallic EVERYWHERE), Under the door panels, med olive. Rear of cab and (so far) driver door jamb is yellow on top of an original white paint, then bare metal. So truck was clipped, but the vin matches. Do those rivets look normal? I havent found the seam yet. Just wondering...the truck was likely fixed in the early 80's and it appears to have been done well. I was worried about the vin tag just a little. Does it look right?

a 70 should only have one plate, but not one that looks like that one.

so how do you explain the top picture then? My truck most certainly was clipped, the roof, one windshield pillar the, the back of the cab and driver side rear door jamb (where the vin tag goes). Was the donor rear cab a later truck and my 70's vin tag riveted back on to the new jamb? The trucks original color was medium olive and the driver side jamb is white. Any thoughts and why does the tag not look right? I'm certain its the right one. It matches vin on original warrantee/sales booklet when sold to my dad on 6-23-70, as well as all old registrations. You cannot get NEW vin tags can you?

In most states if you have a tittle and can show them the #'s stamped on the frame that match the title, they should give you a replacement tag.

Re: 1970 C-10 vin and additional tag info

well my truck is a Fremont built C-10....the tag is ok just has some scratches from previous repair. Also found out it had (i think) black / yellow commercial plates on it when it was sold. Hopefully i can find the original protect-o-plate when i visit folks at Xmas.

Re: 1970 C-10 vin and additional tag info

What does it mean if you have CCE at the beginning of a vin number? I understand the second C stands for 4x2 and the E means V-8 but what is the first C?

The first photo is of a 68... Not a '70. 69 and older had 2 seperate data plates. '70 and later only had one.

Re: 1970 C-10 vin and additional tag info

I wonder if the two of you have early production 1970 trucks... or both from the same plant trying to use up old stock or something. Both of my Longhorns were 1970, my old one was built in St Luis, and this one in Baltimore, and both had this combination VIN plate/GVW plate, instead of two seperate plates as in the years before.

Re: 1970 C-10 vin and additional tag info

I know mine was built in Freemont, CA and sent to Olympia, WA. According to my vin decoding its the 4106 unit built also. So it does look like they both came from the same plant.

Re: 1970 C-10 vin and additional tag info

how do you decipher where your truck was built? I would assume mine was also Fremont CA as it was originally sold to my dad 6-23-70 from Giant Chevrolet in Visalia CA.
