Need help with tailgate (1964 GMC)

I've been looking for a 65-87 GMC stepside tailgate, and haven't had any luck. I currently have a Chevrolet tailgate on the truck, but the rest of the truck is a '64 GMC.
I'm going to keep looking for a GMC tailgate, but I was also wondering what other tips anyone had? I don't exactly want to buy a new one, as they can range from $200-300. And I can only find things on Craigslist when people post things.

Why not buy a tail gate cover? Just cover up the chevy-only you would know and thgey cost around 60 dollars at LMC

It shows on the inside of the tailgate as well (backwards, of course), does that cover both sides of the tailgate?

FUNNY, i have a 1964 Chevy C10, with a GMC tailgate...
its white primer and in good condition.
here is the catch, i have a stepside and i live in SOCAL.
i am willing to trade if we can work it out somehow.

Haha, really? That's pretty funny.
I live in Southern Oregon, so it's not too terribly close.
Also, my tailgate is primer gray.
It's got a little bit of a bend in it (from it actually being used as a truck back in the day), but not bad.

hmmm, how about tomorrow morning we trade pictures and go from there...
i have an old hermit around the corner who noticed my tailgate about a month ago, he invited me for a beer and showed my his collection of 4 '66 C10's.
2 complete 2 parts trucks... he told me he had a tailgate for me and he'd dig it up sometime if i was interested... i need to run back there and say hi and take him up on his offer. but who knows it could be junk? pic's tomorrow and go from there?

If I'm not mistaken, that's a 54-63 GMC tailgate, which I like a lot more than the 64-up. I would love to trade, just don't really know about how to go at it. First off, what city are you living in? Any plans on going to Oregon sometime soon? :p

I just talked to my step-dad about it, he said next time he goes down to California, he could stop and trade with you. He doesn't know the next time he'll be down, but his business goes down pretty frequently. Does that sound good with you? I could let you know the next time he's going down, and go from there? Not sure how long it'd take, probably a few months at the most.
