5.3 swap with a few pictures...

I decided to pull my 400 Small Block/700R4 combo and go with a LSX setup. I've been collecting stuff for awhile and here is where I'm at so far. I'm stuck at the moment waiting for my harness to get done....

I got the 5.3 engine, 4L60e tranny, harness, computer, radiator, schroud and all from a scrap yard in south Florida for $1,400 shipped to my door. Setup has 62,000 miles on it and was really clean inside.
I sent the computer and harness off to get converted to stand alone and its supposed to be back next week.. I'm ready to fire this pig up!

A guy in Arkansas has a shop and has done a few hundred of these.. He charges $340 for the harness and computer flash. Just my luck, he is on vacation this week..

Working alone on and off for two weekends. Its actually an easy swap once you plan it all out. Lots of info in our LS section and a few other sites I visit. I did send a few million questions to board members before I turned the first wrench.

It looks great. Very neat. What do you guys do about the gauges. Does the harness work that is done make it compatible with our clusters? Speedo adapter? For the money, mileage and the power, it seems like the way to go if you are not going to do a stock restoration

Re: 5.3 swap with a few pictures...

I used an adapter for the oil PSI and Water temp. I'll use my GPS for a speedo for now until I can figure out what I want for all new gauges.. Time and money will determine what I end up with.

Well I ended up with two AC compressors during my parts gatering. One is from the 5.3 I bought and the other is from a newer 6.0. I'm using the much smaller one from the 6.0 and ordered compressor blocks from Docs Blocks. When they arrive I will have my hoses made here and hook it all up, The current setup in the truck has the two service ports already and don't have to be incorpoated in the new hoses. After many questions, searches and bothering folks, I think it should be a snap,

Larger compressor

Could you by any chance give us the part number of the ac pump you are using? I recall someone saying there was a discrepancy with the climate control pumps and i was wondering if there is one without CC that we could use. Thanks.

Re: 5.3 swap with a few pictures...

I am interested in doing this in my 69.
where do you buy the adapters for the motor mounts?
are there any other parts or adapters that i'll need to bolt it up?
are you using electric fans or belt driven?
what headers are those?
what fuel pump are you using?
Your swap looks awesome.. so clean. you did a great job
thanks for your info

Not sure on the part number, I'll get a picture later. Its one from a 2005 or 2006 6.0 truck.
