Re: Are there any Corvair project owners here?

In 1974 I purchased a 1964 Convertible for $125. It had a quarter size rust spot on the top of the pass fender ? It was an auto, air & power top car. I found some of the knockoff wire wheels (yes wheels) at a used car dealership for $40 and spent another $900 totally restoring the car. It was white with black interior. I worked at a tire dealer back then and put some BR-60-13 BF Goodrich thin white line radial tires on it. It was massively beautiful. I went out of town and an ex friend drove it and wrecked it. I sold it to his dad for $1800. Big mistake. Wish I could find some pics. I've also owned a couple of Spider Coupes and a 68 Corsa. I would certainly have a couple in my collection if I won the lottery!

Re: Are there any Corvair project owners here?

No Corvairs here but I sure do love 'em. My history with them includes a silver with black interior '64 Monza my dad had that I drove when I first got my license. A friend of mine's dad was heavy into restoring them back in the '70s. He had them all over the place. My friend had a Spyder convertible. Waldo did very detailed nut & bolt restorations. I told him I always wanted to do a Corvair engine swap into my '66 VW Bus and he gave me an engine we swapped in there. Turned that Bus into a movin' machine for what it was. I have a whole lot of Corvair pictures. I had a thread on them in General Discussion a couple/few back.

I have had a few. A 63 convertible, 66 hardtop. My dad fixed up a greenbriar van as a family ride when I was a kid.

I still have the van and a 67 parts car.

I am dying to build a 65-69 Corvair. But I want to go front engine (LS motor).

There was a mid-engine SBC 66 for sale up the road from me several years ago that had me "wanting". That would be a road huggin' machine.

Re: Are there any Corvair project owners here?

I found one at a junkyard and snagged the radio and hubcaps. It was an early one. I was going to donate them to someones project but I think everybody likes the later years. Its a shame. That thing had the motor still in it and all the trim.
Next time I went it was gone to the crusher.

Yeah that looks like the one I saw. It was a 4 door too. Nice!

Re: Are there any Corvair project owners here?

I would LOVE o have another 65-69 model Corvair coupe again. I had a 64 Monza Spyder coupe years ago, but I prefer the later model Vairs.
