Wiring/Gauge Problems/Questions
I have a 305 out of an 86 caprice in my truck. The previous owner had no gauges hooked up except the fuel on the old motor (yea no speedo hooked up either, I got that hooked up now). I only have a small idea of where to hook them up. There is a prong on the front of the motor on the right side. Then there is one with two prongs on the right side toward the back of the motor. The problem is I only Have four wires. Here are the colors: brown and white, dark blue, black and a large pink one. I would like to atleast get my temp gauge working. I have looked at 2 different wiring diagrams and I dont understand them. Which wires do I hook up where?

My book is for a 69...shows dark blue to oil pressure, dark green to water temp. The only thing I see with pink, and black wires, is a trans downshift switch...RPO M-49.. Don't see a brown and white wire in here. They could well have changed colors by 72.

Thanks man, im gonna go try it, I just gotta figure out what the pink one is. It carries electricity to something, I can touch it to the frame and sparks fly.

Sounds like the main power wire to the alt, if you can weld with it!! They start out red, but can fade to pink with time.
