Grade 8 bolts bulk
Does anyone know of any other store beside TS that sells grade 8 bolts by the pound? My local store has hardly any sizes at all.

Re: Grade 8 bolts bulk
Not by the pound but pretty good prices here:
http://www.boltdepot.com/ I bought all new bolts for my wrecker project from them. They ship fast too.

Lowes, Home Depot, Ace all carry bulk bolts but not by the pound.

Re: Grade 8 bolts bulk
They do but for the Grade 8, you'll pay a hefty price there.

Re: Grade 8 bolts bulk
Fastenal you have to buy them by the bag. It is alright if you need a lot of the same size.

Re: Grade 8 bolts bulk
grade 8 bolts are generally way overused and not worth the extra money in most cases

Re: Grade 8 bolts bulk
The local Ace Hardware in my town carries an entire isle full of Fastenall fasteners. It's like walking in to fastener heaven... I'm a lucky man.

Re: Grade 8 bolts bulk
Find your local John Deere Dealer if you have one. They always have rows and rows of bolts.

Re: Grade 8 bolts bulk
I probably spent $200 for bolts form my 68. I bought them at a few different places, but the cost of bolts really add up. There weren't any TS near where I was.
Now I have 2 TS near me |

Re: Grade 8 bolts bulk
When possible I always opt for grade 8 even when unnecessary It's cheap insurance! But then again I only pay 3.29 per pound for it at a local farm store (Thiesens).

Re: Grade 8 bolts bulk
I got all my nuts, bolts, washers, and screws for my burb at a local place here is SoCal.
They have everything fastener related, and their prices were fair not unlike Fastenal that caters mainly to businesses so their prices are premium. If you are desperate, google them and give them a call. King Bolt 4680 N Grand Ave Covina, CA 91724 (626) 339-8400

I use grade 8 on everything. I carry my own inventory & get them from Fastenal.

Re: Grade 8 bolts bulk
Do you have a Macs Hardware Store? That place is awesome for bolts an stuff like that. It goes by the pound an is very cheap. I'll drive across town to there before anywhere else.

Re: Grade 8 bolts bulk
Have to agree on using grade 8. I started 2 weeks ago putting my truck back together and thought I would save some money and get grade 5. The second bolt I put in the front cross member broke and I was using an impact that has no torque at all. Went to Fastenal and bought the bag of 25 bolts and nuts. That is why I posted this thread to find some where I don't have to buy 25 at a time or pay $2 a bolt.

FYI, I have found if you go one size down on the flat washers they fit and look much better. i.e. use a 5/16 flat washer on the 3/8 bolts and 3/8 on the 1/2 bolts etc. Unless you need the additional clearance the smaller washers just look better in my opinion. |

Re: Grade 8 bolts bulk
Fastenal is a good store. But I started looking for some better deals online and found Allen's Fasteners. I probably spent two-thirds of what I would have at Fastenal when I redid the suspension on my '62 Impala. Most of the Grade 8 stuff is domestic made as well.

Re: Grade 8 bolts bulk
If theres something strange or particular around here I need I go to Caterpiller. They have lots of sizes from small to huge, and their grade 8 stuff is pure d made in USA grade 8, not made by a chinaman grade 8.

Re: Grade 8 bolts bulk
Yes, and not only that but grade 8, USA made, case hardened. Most of theirs are made by LE which is Lake Erie hardware made in Frankfort Indiana. Cat has the best bolts out there. Not for every use and not cheap, but if you need a wierd length in an odd size, they probably have it. I needed an 11" long 7/16 bolt and they had that. 7/16 is not a common carry size around here. Cat had it.
