Does it start right up after? Ever rebuilt the tb? Have you checked the injector spray pattern?

Re: 87 5.7 fuel injected HELP!

Does yours just die or does it feel like it runs out of gas? I had one that would just die out of no where, and took a little bit to get it to crank, I chased the problem for a while and it ended up being the distributor.

Remember on these 87's the oil pressure switch and the Ignition Module are all in with the Fuel Pump relay

Ok that's good , but check the connection anyway to the switch.
I have also seen ignition module cause fuel problems when hot.

That tip listed above about the Distributor is good also, But in my experience Iv'e only seen it on Big Block engines. The top bushing wears out and the rotor starts hitting the Distributor cap.

When mine had the symptoms you are having the fuel pump was weak , causing low fuel pressure and stalling, Truck would stall but crank right up run fine for a few miles. If you do replace it , don't get the China junk. This is one area you don't want to save money.

Re: 87 5.7 fuel injected HELP!

on my 87 4X4 burb that happened a couple of times
first time the whole underside was packed with snow and ice
left it on the side of the road,
went back and it started drove it home checked for holes leaks ,broke wires,
nothing
drove fine again, then quit again went back next day it started up drove home
changed the pump then.
figured that was it and then it quit again, checking voltage again,
found a nic,cut in the fuel pump wire over the axle all green and corroded, hard and baked
