Electric fan with OEM Radiator??
any of you guys using a single or dual electric fan with your oem radiator. I just got new copper and brass 4 core radiator just like the one that came stock on my big block truck. I'm thinking about using electric fans but not sure which ones or what shroud?
I can go to the pull a part scrap yard and pick up fans pretty cheap. I'm just not real sure about what kind? Not sure about wiring either? I have some free spots on my add on fuse box but I will have to add some relays I guess. |

Not sure about the junkyards...but I got one built for our trucks from Old Air Products in Ft. Worth TX. Keeps my motor where ever I set it...currently 180*. I have primary wired to key on and secondary (spins faster) wired to temp probe.

Thanks Kurt for the pictures. I love your fan setup. And your radiator is exactly like the one I just bought. Just like all your parts, that fan setup looks High $$$. Not sure a made to fit setup will be in my budget. Your pics got me thinking about something else. You have any part numbers for your radiator hoses? or did you use stock LS hoses?

'98-'02 Camaro dual fans set up works well and are cheap at the.u pull it type yards. Also Taurus fans are supposed to be a good option as they pull a ton of air. The down side is you have to fab the brackets to mount them. I usually just make some brackets to mount them to the core support, going around the radiator but not attached to it. I've seen people attach fans to the radiator core bit I don't like that idea. Another plus to using a factory fan versus an aftermarket is that the OEM fans are generally not as loud. I'm always going to car shows where there is someone driving around in a car that sounds like a jet taxiing down the runway, that would drive me nuts if it were my car.

look for the V6 fans, that should be dual fans, the 4cyl fans are single IIRC. also they draw a crapload of amps so make sure you have an alternator that will put out.

I think I paid $250 for the e-fans...included relays, thermostat and probe, and wiring. Includes extra wire to manually turn of the high speed fan, which I have hooked up to a switch for engine off cooling at the track. They do make some noise when both are on though (don't hear them in the cab w/motor running tho)...I think its more the blade design then noisy motors?
oh...and the upper and lower hoses are what was listed for a late model pickup w/LQ4's and LY6's.
