Steering shaft intermediate coupling
My '72 's steering shaft intermediate coupling seal is torn and has been leaking grease for a while apparently. Is there ANY way I can replace this seal WITHOUT taking the pin and bearing blocks apart? It looks like I would need to buy a mic to reset the pin accurately and it would be a PITA if I have to take this apart. Not to mention a way to press the pin out and back in again.

i think they have to be pressed, i would go to the junkyard and see if you could find one that suits you, looks like the same as the one i got from a 81 doner truck and put on my 66 when i done a auto-matic swap i think the 72-79 are all the same maybe i hope this helped

just so I understand, you think I could find another "lower 1/2" the steering coulmn (from the intermediate coupling to the flexible coupling at the steering box), and replace the whole thing rather than messing around with removing and reinstalling the pin and bearing blocks in my intermediate coupling? That might be a much better idea. Thanks Mike

yes replace the whole thing,the junk yard would be the cheapest place to buy it or post a thread here these old boys will sell it to ya,i'm glad i could help out

what year column did you use in the 65 truck. trying to put one in my 63

i put a 81 chevy truck column in my 66 c10 i used the 81 pedal assembly also so i could use the lock steering and i also used the 81 wireing harness and electronic dist, it was a job but it can be done

We have good intermediate shafts checked cleaned up and painted black if interested 35.00.
