My 83 Z28 project
Just wanted to post a couple pics of my current project. I picked up this 83 Z28 for $400 (saved it from the scrapper) and have been trying to get it road worthy over the last few weeks...I need it for my daily driver.
It's a carb'd 305/ 5spd car. I got it with the seats and most of the interior from an 85 IROC and the distributor had been replaced with a non-computer one. I have the original, but I'm not sure why it was replaced. The clutch linkage was messed up so I got the parts to convert it to a hydraulic clutch. I got most of that done, I just need to bleed the hydraulics. It's still on the jack stands because I have to hook up the back brakes. The PO swapped out the stock rear end with one from the same 85 IROC the interior came from. I just bolted on the hood a couple days ago. The hood is a steel goodmark cowl hood I found in a local wrecking yard for $80. I just need to sand down the surface rust and paint it, but it's been too cold for that. Once I get the brakes finished, All I need to do is rebuild the non-computer (edelbrock 1903 q-jet) carb I bought for it and then it should be good to go. So far the only real rust I've found is around the T-Tops and I hope to take care of that next year. Before: After:

Re: My 83 Z28 project
NICE! I fipped a 86 z28 a couple weeks ago. It hardley ran when I got it. I rebuilt a regular non computer q-jet and stuck a regular HEI dizzy in it and it purred like a kitten.

Re: My 83 Z28 project
Thanks!!! She's almost ready for the road. All I have left is to finish the carburetor and tune it, but I decided to add one more step. I have a Weiand 8004 intake that's going on it first. I want to get rid of the egr valve and I've heard that sometimes the valve gets stuck open and causes problems. So once the snow melts I will be working at it again.
