looking for info on my rear(end)
iv got a 1970 chevy longbed that came with rear leafs,im told the 12 bolt is a spicer/dana(ece) says they can get axles for it(i want to go to 5lug) but they want like 400 bones,anyone know the history on this rear end is it rare,is it not as wide as the 71-72s,and where could i get some 5 lug axles for it(spline?) any info would be appr. thanks

actually the 70 rear might b the same width as the 71-72 axel// some yes some no as i rememberit
all the axels have the same spline couint for many many years

Id get a complete rearened from the forum/craigslist/etc
I got one off the forum for $150 in 5 lug and the gear ratio i wanted already cleaned up and painted nicely just needed brakes and gear oil changed!

measure the rear end from backing plate to backing plate. Search on here (or ask again) the width of the early 70 verses late 70 12 bolt rear. (I can't remember the numbers off the top of my head) Odds are you can just get axles from a 71/72 (and into the mid 70's too) and the matching drums, and just slap them in your rear. Most 70 rears are the wider style, like the later ones.
