4X4 dip stick differences

Ran across another mystery, I am familar with the bottom two dipsticks pictured which are the usual ones that I find in our V8 4X4's..
Look at the top one, it had a different mount and curve to the tube, it bolts on in the same place and ends up at the same location as the top two but the curve is way different. Does anyone know what the application is for it?? was there more than one style?

Re: 4X4 dip stick differences

Odd that you posted this question. Going through my "junk" and looking for a extra dipstick/tube setup. I have the bottom type also. I was complaring it, as you are and cannot come up with an exact fit. My thoughts are it might be a BB application or another brand that GM used. Or, last - not even GM. The person that I think would know is Jerry Moss. I'll get in touch with him.

Re: 4X4 dip stick differences

I had a similar one in a 4x4 years ago and was told by the previous owner it was out of a van.

Re: 4X4 dip stick differences

I don't believe that the third dipstick is from a big block as the dipsticks on the big blocks are on the passenger side of the engine.

Re: 4X4 dip stick differences

I think the van ones are much longer, I know it is not for a big block (tried it) its totally baasackwards.
It fits perfectly and bolts up like its made for a drivers small block configuration. Does anyone have a parts book for 69-72 to see if there was a difference in 4X4's from manual to power brakes?

My 70' blazer has manual brakes, v8. The bottom two are the same as mine. Original engine also.

Re: 4X4 dip stick differences

I wonder if a K10/20 with an I6 would have a similar dipstick?

I need to find one of these for my K10, my tube broke and I don't have the correct one now.

Re: 4X4 dip stick differences

The six is on passenger side and no different from 2wd 6. Both of my 72 4x4's have the deep curved unit but one with a little lift would make getting stuff back in the hole easier, maybe it was bent?
