some christmas present...

Driving home from work the 23rd and got hammered by some jerk playing with his phone instead of driving. I was stopped in traffic on the highway and he was going probably 50-60 never even hit the brakes. The rear wheel took most of the impact breaking the spring and pulling the axle tube out of the pumpkin.

Tell that jerk adjuster that he knows nothing about the values of vehicles, and before making a stupid statement like that maybe he should do his homework.
I don't know what year your truck is but here is an example of the NADA value guide. Don't take the first offer, period.

Hell the Bed $350 to 400, Then back wheels and rims are $200+ , Then you got tail pipes

You need to tell the insurance man if HE CAN find a truck for that price then he needs to BUY IT NOW

Re: some christmas present...

Yea somehow the value magicaly went up. I guess its not totaled but theres only 3k in damage? I think i'll have a hard time fixing that myself for 3k let alone a body shop. I don't think the cab is worth fixing due to the accident as well as some rust and some older rust repairs that were poorly done. Im looking for a newer cab with good doors already on it and just swap everything out. I already picked up a set of 6" BDS rear springs and Im on the lookout for another 12 bolt with 3.73s just to get it rolling again for the time being.

Re: some christmas present...

they've offered 3100 and its not totaled so far but I have a feeling most body shops would laugh at fixing that kind of damage for 3100. I think I need to take it to a body shop and get a real estimate from a body guy and not some dork with a computer.

Not think, That IS what you need to do. And take it to three places, It's that computer dorks job to pay you the least amount as possible !

Your right, its just tough because by the time I get home from work most places are closed and the truck really isn't driveable with that bent spring. The rear end is shoved forward at least an inch on that side.

I agree w/ restrorob, and if there is a chevy dealership take it to them for an estimate, I have found over the years that they are the most expensive. Also if they total it ask them how mush to purchase it back.

Very good idea here...I don;t know about the rules where you live but here insurance can only recommend shops to have your car repaired, so it remains our choice where to take it. There are maximums for what insurance will pay for particular parts but better shops will use better repo's if available if you ask them to.

Good luck, I'm really glad your rims weren't damaged, they are great!!

Yea, luckily they cant force me to have it fixed at a body shop here so I can take a check and fix it myself and use the money that would of went towards labor on better parts ect. I just want an estimate from a third party instead of someone looking to get away for the cheapest possible, I think I'd honestly have trouble putting this back together myself with the money they've offered so far.

I like the wheels too, thankfully they're fairly strong (the car that hit me climbed right up that back one) and I do have a matching spare just in case. I searched long and hard for those, bought a set of 15x7 thinking they were 15x8 and then found the 15x10s you see in the pic a week later.

Thats about where we're at now. Reluctantly drove it to a body shop close by on friday and the guy immediatly called the ins adjuster and told him his quote was a joke. Everyone agrees the truck is totaled and the adjuster is fine with not actually totaling the truck to save the title. I just don't agree with what they valued the truck at so im having to fight to make him put the value where it belongs or at least something a little closer.

Since everyone is done looking at the truck I started tearing into it saturday. Got the broken rear and springs pulled and new springs hung, Im having trouble finding another 12 bolt with 3.73s so Im still waiting on that at the moment otherwise it would at least be driveable until the spring when I can do a cab swap.
