77 2wd blazer build
Well I just got this blazer monday and cant wait to get started. My plans are to do a 5/6 drop and paint it (not sure on color or colors yet) I do know that I am doing away with the side trim.
This build will most likely take a while since I am also building a 87 SWB stepside for my oldest son to drive when he turns 16. I will post up some pics when I am in my shop. I did get the top off and the pass quarter panel sanded down to bare metal, welded the trim holes shut, pulled a few small dents and epoxy primed the quarter panel. My plan is to work on one panel at a time taking it down to bare metal and epoxy prime. I really want this blazer to come out nice. More future mods possibly to include LS motor and overdrive trans. |

Re: 77 2wd blazer build
It will be slow going as I am working on it and an 87 short step 4x4 for my 14yr old son at the same time but I just could not pass it up and it was killing me looking at it just setting on the lift so I had to get started on it. I bought it Monday
I hope it turns out it has been a long time since I did a complete body and paint and now I am doing 2 at the same time. |

Re: 77 2wd blazer build
Made a little progress on both projects got the bodywork done on the pass side quarter and got the top of cab and drivers quarter to bare metal and epoxy primed. now a little body work on the drivers quarter were I welded the trim holes shut and then move onto the doors. Sorry no pics of drivers side as it is a little hard to get good pics that close to the wall. Also through in a couple of pics of the progress on my sons truck doing 2 at the same time is interesting to say the least.

Re: 77 2wd blazer build
Well stripped the pass door, rocker, and cowl area today and got a not so nice supprise the pass door had no rust but the skin had alot of filler in it and when I got it to bare metal seen why I did epoxy it but think I will start looking for a different door. I also noticed a little wave in the pass quarter around the gas filler so doing a little more body work on it.

Re: 77 2wd blazer build
Yes it came from Quincy. PO lost his storage and needed to sell so after a little haggling got a running 2wd blazer w/ only surface rust ,newly covered seats, new dash pad, nice door panels, brand new 18 & 20" wheels and tires good matching set of stock wheels and tires for less than 2k

Re: 77 2wd blazer build
well I have made a little progress I found some good doors, fenders and 3" beltech spindles and 2.5" groundforce coils the coils are brand new. Problem is I was planning on dropping the front with the spindles and coils and doing a flip kit on the rear but after installing the drop on the front it looks like a flip will be to much. I have attached a pic what do you guys think.

Is there an engine and trans currently in it? If so it seems a little odd to me that it looks like it stock height, slightly loser in the front than the rear with 5.5" of drop kit installed up front. If not I would try and locate a engine/trans combo to set in it for a couple days to weight the front suspension down a little and see where it is sitting to decide whether or not the flip kit will be to much. If you have an engine and trans in there and you just want it leveled out, see if you can grab a pair of leafs from a 4wd and they'll give you 2" of drop without cutting anything under the rear floor like drop shackles. Blazer is looking good.

i wouldnt do more than 1 1/2 because the ride will be ruined after 1 1/2 and you may have clearance issues cut the end of the coils that sit in the lower control arms a grinder with a cutting wheel will take 10 seconds/per cut i cut a coil and a half off of a 62 bel air....gave me 3 inches and the ride was the same and it cornered better due to a little stiffer spring rate. also ive gotten the same effects on a couple s10s. ive never done it on a c10 but ive seen many threads that say the same thing i have experienced

Re: 77 2wd blazer build
Well I finally got different doors and found some seats that suit the look I am wanting and got the outside in epoxy and bodywork done. Also replace the carb and now it runs great. Now for the prime and block fun time and hope to score a overdrive trans and more this weekend at the local swap meet.

Re: 77 2wd blazer build
I bought the drop spindles and coils used so not real sure what drop they are but was told 3in spindle and 2.5in coils. I did measure from lower ball joint to center of spindle and they was 3in difference in them from my stock spindles as for the coils I did not put a tape on them but they were at least 1.5 to 2in shorter than my stock coils (drop coils were brand new) I just thought the old ones had sagged a little so at least it should be 4.5 in. In the pics with the Coy's it only had them on pic side and door ,fender and hood are not on the truck but it does have a SBC and trans in it .
