side exhaust exit!

Its going to date your truck back to the 70's, but its your truck and YOU have to like it.

I think if its tastefully done, it could look kind of cool.

Definitely a "retro" look. I had side pipes on my 78 for years until my wife nagged me to remove them. Can't count how many times she got her legs a little too close to the hot pipes!

If done right it looks awesome but you do have to be aware when you exit the truck, burns before you can react! But you know its a live and learn situation. I have learned therefore I don't get burned anymore.

It is actually tucked in pretty good and you would have a hard time stepping on it. This is a video that shows how it sounds too.

Ha, Well that is kind of a long story. The short version is 245/60R 18 on Coy's C-55 wheels. The rest of the story can be found on my build thread.

I've got an '84 up here in Mooresville that has side exit exhaust. It exits right in front of the rear wheels. It's for sale too in the classifieds!

I didn't build it, so I cant give any advice or tips, but it sure sounds SWEET! She's got a mean motor too!

I ran a set of side exhausts on oneof my cars, years ago---my ears are still ringing. The sound was too much, even at a young age. I like a good exhaust sound, but I really like it at the rear of my vehicles. I also do not like an exhaust that turns down under your car or truck. It jsut blows too much dirt up in the air.

Headers, crossover, good mufflers ( I lkie the Magnaflow muffs), 2 1/2" dual exhaust pipes, stainless steel tips (no rusting) would be my choice

The biggest problem with exhaust that dump under the rig it trafficing the fumes, makes the cab smell like exhaust.

Mine, it exits under the steps before the rear wheels. I don't drive it far or much but, it sounds awesome. Dual 3" with 40 series flowmasters. Its not quiet but I don't care. Sounded good with my .060 over 350. Should sound real good with my new 496 when its in.

I almost forgot. I used dynomax mandrel bent 45 degree elbows. I just cut and welded them together. It tucked up real nice and it looks good. I also had to make a custom dual hump trans crossmember. I just bought another one from a junk yard and made one from the two. The one that I bought, must have been a recall or update as, it had a spot welded plate on the bottom. I just got 1/8" plate and cut and welded it to the croosmember. I welded all of the seams on both halves. If needed, send me a PM and I'll take some pics.

Side pipes and Side Exit exhaust are different. So I think he means side exit in front of the rear wheels. And yes it looks pretty good.

I love the look of side pipes and side exit exhaust, and I love the sound as long as good mufflers are being used. The biggest problem I have is that you can't run a side exhaust vehicle in a garage without filling it with exhaust fumes. That makes it a real pain to warm your car up in the garage in the morning or do work that requires the engine to be running. With a rear exit exhaust I can run the engine as long as I leave the garage door open.

Well on my stepside, I got rid of the tank because, it would have got in the way of the way I did the exhaust. So, I put a fuel cell in.

I don't believe the gas tanks hangs down lower than the body so you would just run the pipe right under the tank. Of course with a longbed you could run the pipe just passed the tank and out a hole in the side of the bed.. like this.
