Patina
I just won a 53 on Ebay to fool around and play with. I was wondering if you guys think I should sand it down and paint it or preserve the patina.

Re: Patina
If I were to drive it like this, fathers would be locking up their daughters and mothers would be gathering up their children in fear. Not only that, but in a couple of years it would probably dissolve into a small pile of rust flakes.

Re: Patina
I'm ok with Patina, if it's real, but I don't prefer it myself. I definetly don't like the created Patina. That one is more "Rustina" and looks original. I'd make it road worthy and work on the mechanics, then take care of the body last. After all, they originally had paint.

Re: Patina
It'd be a shame to cover up all that history.
I'm with the guys, all you need is some white walls and a tetanus booster. hahaha

Re: Patina
These pictures do nothing to change my attitude toward patina. As I have said in previous posts, a little undercoating showing through the original paint is okay. But rust has been and always will be the greatest enemy of the automobile restorer and should be dealt with decisively.

Re: Patina
Theres a 53 down the road from me...guy wants $4500 for it. Has a spare set of fenders front/rear and its a 3600 3/4ton longbed. Just seems a little steep. Hes installed a 235 L6 and still has the factory 3speed and rearend.

Re: Patina
Wash the moss/mold off of it and leave the black/primer patina. I think that's one of the best looks for a 49-54 pickup.
