Cab Sound Deadening Question

Getting ready to get to work on the cab of the truck and got on the subject with dad about sound deadener. I'm going to run duals off the 292 and dump them out the bottom after the cab, will i need to put down some sound deadener to hear the radio and people talking. Advice would help.

I would recommend it based on my experience if you want a good noise level. I drove 100 miles in my '64 with NO sound deadner (or carpet) and I had a noise hangover when I got out. The muffs are right at the back of the cab. My '66 has turbos in roughly the same spot and it is fairly loud too. I can still hear the stereo!! Both trucks have V8's.

What brand would you recommend that is easy to apply and can be purchased on a budget.

I went with peel and seal from Home Depot. Comes in 25 foot rolls of 6" wide. I used about 3 rolls to do from behind the gas tank to the firewall. get a wooden roller from a stereo shop and it will get it nice and smooth. I used an industrial carpet pad over that, it's about 6mm thick, then carpet. My cab is so crazy quiet, it's like a brand new truck.

I also used a strip on the back side of my door panels, and some on the door skin. No rattles, dead quiet. At least until my stereo goes in

If you have about $100 to spend, get some FatMat. It's a better product. But my whole floor with carpet was less than $100. I'm happy with it.

Thanks, i am not running any carpet in mine though, so would i just do everything up until the carpet pad. I am running a poly vinyl floor mat in it. Thanks i will definitely look into that.

This guy has done more research on sound deadening than anyone else I know combined. Also, don't buy the name brand sound deadening materials. It will run you into the poor house. There are materials that are just as good without the name brand that will suit your needs easily, if you do your research.

Ive used the peel and seal also. I havent done the whole floor so I cant say how well it works but it did cut down some resonance from under the cab.

I used EZCOOL sound deadner on my 54 ford,they are a Hamb vendor and alot of guys use and have had great results,super fast shipping.....it doesnt have peel and stick so you just use 3m spray adhesive. reasonable price also.the $32.50 40sq ft. roll did the whole bottom floor pan of my car so it would do a truck cab floor plus more no problem.....

Thanks, i will definitely look into everything you guys have told me and i will also relay this to my dad and see what he says. Are there any other areas i should cover with insulation other than the floor?

I just put down dynamat extreme. I haven't got it on the road so I cant say what difference it has made. You will always hear "this stuff is better then that and cheaper". Maybe it's the placebo effect I wanted but there is a reason everyone tries to compare to it.

I will definitey consider doing this when i check out the money situation, and i will definitely meake sure that it is sealed up nice and tight. I have yet to do that but if i do it then i would only go to the top of where the tank will go in the cab so its hidden by the seat.
