model type info.
How do you go about to find out the exact model type your truck is. I have a 72' GMC, that I just got. I know its the basic 1/2 ton, blah, blah, but like I have saddle tanks plus the main. The emblems on the front fenders are there but missing the "1500 v-eight,1500 custom, 1500 super custom, 1500 sierra, 1500 sierra grande. Is there such a thing to tell you everything that was ordered on a particular truck by the trucks Vin #? Anything would help, Thanks

There is a Vin number on the door jamb. Also check the glove box there may be a option sheet still there.

I have the vin # from the door jam, but the options on the glovebox is so faded that I cant read it.

Sometimes there is a build sheet hidden in the seat springs or behind the gas tank.
Search the archives for Build Sheet. There may be some way to photo enhance the glove box sheet if you could take a pic of it.

The only thing a model number will tell you is short/long bed, what family of engine(inline or V-8) and if it is a step or a fleet.
Everything else in it is little things like where it was built and stuff. |
